At Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., we offer an exceptional opportunity as a Process Engineering Manager in the Laboratory Chemical Division (LCD). You will play a crucial role in optimizing and continually enhancing process efficiencies, quality, safety, and automation within our manufacturing operations. By collaborating with cross-functional teams and analyzing production methods, you will successfully implement structured continuous-improvement methodologies to enhance performance. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and accountable culture.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and support training and development to enhance team capability.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, improve safety, and strengthen operational performance.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis methodologies to drive continuous improvement and resolve process-related issues.
- Support compliance with regulatory, quality, and industry standards, including process verification and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Leverage experience with filling lines, labeling systems, packaging equipment, and distillation processes to improve operational performance, support troubleshooting, and drive process and equipment reliability.
- Drive automation and digital transformation initiatives to improve plant operations, including packaging, filling, labeling, and data-driven process optimization.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies while collaborating cross-functionally with maintenance, IT, quality, and operations to ensure seamless integration.
- Develop and maintain statistical process control (SPC) systems, analyze production data, and implement controls to improve product quality and process reliability.
- Lead and execute engineering and capital projects from feasibility through completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with business objectives.
- Apply cross-industry best practices to advance safety, quality, productivity, cost savings, and long-term operational performance across the plant.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (required) in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in process engineering within chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, automation systems, and packaging/filling operations.
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements, including process hazard analysis (PHA), management of change (MOC), incident investigation, and risk mitigation in regulated manufacturing environments.
- Understanding of process automation and control systems (e.g., PLC, SCADA, robotics, vision inspection).
- Proficiency in SPC and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related field.
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt).
- Demonstrated success leading automation implementation projects in filling, labeling, or packaging operations.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in New Jersey is $123,800.00–$185,675.00. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
