Search Insurance Jobs in New YorkInsurance CPT Sponsorship Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
Which insurance companies in New York sponsor F-1 CPT visas?
Several large insurance carriers and financial services firms headquartered in New York have hired F-1 CPT students in the past, including AIG, MetLife, Chubb, Prudential, and Marsh McLennan. These companies typically run structured summer or semester internship programs through which CPT authorization is possible. Sponsorship availability varies by program cycle and department, so confirming CPT eligibility directly with each employer's HR team before accepting an offer is important.
Which cities in New York have the most insurance F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan is by far the most active market for insurance F-1 CPT jobs in New York, given the concentration of global insurance carriers, reinsurers, and brokerages in Midtown and Lower Manhattan. Smaller pockets of activity exist in White Plains and Long Island City, primarily at regional offices of larger carriers. F-1 students at universities in the New York City metro area, including Columbia, NYU, and Fordham, are well-positioned to access these opportunities.
What types of insurance roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in New York?
Roles that align directly with a student's field of study are most commonly approved for CPT in insurance. Actuarial intern positions are a strong fit for students in mathematics or statistics programs. Data analytics, risk modeling, underwriting support, and financial analysis roles frequently qualify for students in finance, economics, or computer science. Claims operations and compliance roles may qualify depending on the degree program. The connection between the job and the student's academic curriculum is the determining factor, not the industry itself.
How do I find insurance F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by visa type, including F-1 CPT, so you can search insurance roles in New York without having to manually vet each employer's sponsorship willingness. Beyond Migrate Mate, your university's career services office is a key resource, as many New York-area schools have existing relationships with insurance firms that have hired CPT students before. Applying early in the semester cycle improves your chances, as CPT authorization requires your Designated School Official to process paperwork before your start date.
Are there any New York-specific or insurance-specific considerations for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
New York's insurance industry is regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services, which adds a layer of licensing requirements for certain client-facing roles. F-1 CPT students should confirm with prospective employers that their internship role does not require a New York state insurance license, as obtaining one as a nonimmigrant student can be complicated. Additionally, CPT must be authorized by your DSO before the internship begins, and the work must be an integral part of your degree program, not just employment for compensation.
