Which education companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in New York?
New York hosts a wide range of education employers that have historically worked with F-1 CPT students, including major universities like Columbia, NYU, and Cornell's NYC tech campus, as well as edtech companies and tutoring organizations. Public school districts and charter networks in New York City also periodically bring on CPT students in support and research capacities. Sponsorship availability varies by role, term, and department.
Which cities in New York have the most education F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City concentrates the majority of F-1 CPT education opportunities, driven by its density of universities, private schools, and edtech startups. Buffalo is a secondary hub, particularly around the University at Buffalo's research and education programs. Albany has openings tied to state education agencies and policy organizations. Smaller markets like Rochester and Syracuse also see activity through their own university ecosystems.
What types of education roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly qualify include curriculum development, instructional design, education research, tutoring program coordination, and academic support. Administrative or operational roles inside educational institutions may also qualify if they are directly tied to a student's field of study. The connection between the position and your degree program is what your DSO evaluates when approving CPT, so the role must be integral to your academic curriculum.
How do I find education F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 students and filters job listings by visa type, so you can search education roles in New York that are open to CPT candidates without sorting through positions that exclude international students. Because CPT authorization must come from your school, pairing a Migrate Mate job search with early conversations with your DSO helps you move quickly once you identify a role.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in the education sector?
New York City's Department of Education has specific hiring requirements, including background checks and certification standards that can affect timelines for F-1 students. New York State also has its own teacher certification process that is separate from federal visa requirements. For edtech and private sector education roles, standard CPT rules apply, but some employers in New York require on-site work arrangements, which can affect authorization if your school is located in another state.
