Which education companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in California?
California-based edtech and education service companies that have historically engaged CPT students include Coursera, Chegg, Duolingo's California operations, and various online learning platforms headquartered in the Bay Area. University systems, including the UC and CSU networks, also hire CPT students in education-adjacent roles such as research assistance, instructional support, and program administration. CPT eligibility depends on your school's authorization, not the employer's sponsorship.
Which cities in California have the most education F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area lead in edtech and higher education roles, hosting numerous learning technology companies and university campuses. Los Angeles is a strong second, with a dense concentration of K-12 networks, community colleges, and education nonprofits. San Jose, San Diego, and Sacramento also have active education hiring markets, particularly for roles tied to community colleges, workforce development programs, and public school districts.
What types of education roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in California?
Roles that commonly align with CPT in education include instructional design, curriculum development, education program coordination, learning experience design, academic advising support, and edtech product roles with an educational focus. The position must be directly related to your major field of study and must be authorized by your Designated School Official before you begin working. Not every education job title will qualify, so DSO review is essential.
How do I find education F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by visa type, including F-1 CPT, and by industry, so you can browse education roles in California without sorting through positions that don't support your work authorization. Searching by city alongside CPT filters helps narrow results to Bay Area, LA, and San Diego education employers. Always confirm CPT eligibility with your DSO before accepting any offer.
Are there any California-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in education?
California's large public university system means many CPT opportunities arise through university-affiliated programs, research centers, or education nonprofits with formal academic partnerships, which can simplify DSO authorization. The state's strong edtech sector also creates CPT pathways in product, content, and operations roles within education companies. Keep in mind that California employment law applies regardless of visa status, including rules around unpaid internships, which must meet strict legal criteria.
