INTRODUCTION
Founded in 1977 as the Senior Care Action Network, SCAN began with a simple but radical idea: that older adults deserve to stay healthy and independent. That belief was championed by a group of community activists we still honor today as the “12 Angry Seniors.” Their mission continues to guide everything we do.
Today, SCAN is a nonprofit health organization serving more than 500,000 people across Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington, with over $8 billion in annual revenue. With nearly five decades of experience, we have built a distinctive, values-driven platform dedicated to improving care for older adults.
Our work spans Medicare Advantage, fully integrated care models, primary care, care for the most medically and socially complex populations, and next-generation care delivery models. Across all of this, we are united by a shared commitment: combining compassion with discipline, innovation with stewardship, and growth with integrity.
At SCAN, we believe scale should strengthen—not dilute—our mission. We are building the future of care for older adults, grounded in purpose, accountability, and respect for the people and communities we serve.

Tips for Finding CPT Jobs in California
Target CPT-experienced employers in tech corridors
Companies in Silicon Valley, San Jose, and the Bay Area have established CPT hiring pipelines and understand the authorization timeline. Prioritize employers who list internship roles tied to degree-relevant fields, as these are the most CPT-compatible positions.
Start your search before your CPT authorization window
California employers, especially in competitive sectors like software and biotech, fill internship roles months in advance. Begin reaching out to hiring managers and browsing CPT-eligible listings on Migrate Mate well before your semester start date.
Coordinate your offer letter with your DSO early
Your Designated School Official needs a formal offer letter with your job title, employer address, start date, and weekly hours to issue CPT authorization. Request this letter from California employers as soon as you receive a verbal offer.
Focus on industries with structured internship programs
California's entertainment, aerospace, and healthcare technology sectors run recurring internship cohorts with defined start dates and CPT-friendly onboarding. Structured programs reduce delays because HR teams already understand the documentation process.
Leverage your university's employer partnerships
California universities including UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, and Stanford maintain active employer networks specifically for international students. On-campus career fairs and university job portals often surface CPT-approved roles before they appear on general job boards.
Filter job searches to roles explicitly open to CPT authorization
Many California employers will sponsor CPT but don't advertise it prominently. Use Migrate Mate to filter for F-1 CPT-compatible roles, and review job descriptions for language like 'internship,' 'practicum,' or 'students welcome' as indicators of CPT eligibility.

Which industries in California sponsor the most F-1 CPT visas?
Technology is the dominant industry for F-1 CPT sponsorship in California, with software engineering, data science, and product roles concentrated in Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. Biotech and life sciences are a strong second, particularly in San Diego and South San Francisco. Entertainment and media companies in Los Angeles, as well as financial services and consulting firms statewide, also hire regularly through CPT arrangements.
Which cities in California have the most F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area have the highest concentration of F-1 CPT roles in California, driven by the density of technology and venture-backed companies. Los Angeles is strong for entertainment, media, and marketing CPT positions. San Diego is a center for biotech and defense-adjacent internships. San Jose, Irvine, and Sacramento each have active employer markets with universities nearby feeding CPT talent pipelines.
What types of roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in California?
CPT-eligible roles must be directly tied to your degree program and authorized by your DSO. In California, qualifying roles commonly include software engineering internships, data analysis positions, biomedical research assistantships, financial analyst roles, and marketing or UX design placements. The role does not need to be labeled an internship, but it must be integral to your curriculum and occur before you complete your degree.
How do I find F-1 CPT jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and work visa holders, allowing you to filter job listings by visa type including F-1 CPT and by state. For California specifically, also use your university's career portal, attend campus recruiting events hosted by Bay Area and Los Angeles employers, and connect with DSO-approved employer lists. Applying early matters because California's most competitive CPT roles fill months ahead of start dates.
Are there any California-specific considerations for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
California's labor laws are among the most employee-protective in the country, which affects CPT placements. Paid CPT internships in California are subject to state minimum wage requirements, overtime rules, and meal and rest break laws. Unpaid CPT arrangements require the role to meet strict criteria under both federal and California law to avoid misclassification. Some California employers, particularly smaller startups, may be unfamiliar with CPT documentation requirements, so it helps to proactively share your DSO's CPT authorization letter and employer verification form at the start of the hiring process.
