Which science & research companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in New York?
Employers that have historically hosted F-1 CPT students in science and research roles in New York include Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the New York Genome Center, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, and major research universities such as Columbia, Cornell, and Rockefeller University. CPT authorization comes from your school, but these organizations have established track records of structuring roles that meet CPT eligibility requirements.
Which cities in New York have the most science & research F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City concentrates the largest share of science and research CPT opportunities, particularly in biomedical research, pharmaceutical development, and clinical science, driven by its hospital systems, research universities, and biotech sector. Buffalo has a growing life sciences cluster tied to the University at Buffalo. The Albany-Troy-Schenectady corridor hosts research roles connected to institutions like Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and state-funded research initiatives.
What types of science & research roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly qualify for CPT in science and research include research assistant, laboratory technician, data analyst in a research setting, computational biology intern, environmental science analyst, and clinical research coordinator. The position must be an integral or optional part of your degree program and directly related to your field of study. Your designated school official (DSO) determines CPT eligibility, not the employer.
How do I find science & research F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate lists science and research positions in New York where employers are open to F-1 CPT candidates, letting you filter specifically by visa type and state. Beyond job boards, university career centers and on-campus research labs are strong starting points since faculty-led projects frequently hire CPT-eligible students. Outreach to institutional research offices at hospitals and universities in New York City and Buffalo can also surface roles before they are publicly posted.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in science & research?
New York's high concentration of federally funded research institutions means some roles involve access to controlled research environments, which can require background checks or security clearances that complicate CPT placement timelines. Additionally, roles at New York State Department of Health labs or other government-affiliated research sites may have additional hiring steps. Always confirm CPT authorization with your DSO well before an anticipated start date, as processing at some universities takes two weeks or more.
