Which media and entertainment companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in New York?
Large media conglomerates headquartered or operating in New York City, including NBCUniversal, ViacomCBS, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Condé Nast, have historically brought on F-1 CPT students. Major advertising holding companies like WPP, Publicis, and IPG also hire CPT students across their New York offices. Sponsorship availability varies by semester, role, and whether the company's HR team is set up to coordinate with university work authorization requirements.
Which cities in New York have the most media and entertainment F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City, specifically Manhattan, accounts for the overwhelming majority of media and entertainment CPT opportunities in the state. Midtown and Hudson Yards concentrate broadcast networks, streaming platforms, and advertising agencies. Brooklyn has grown as a hub for independent production companies and digital media startups. Outside the city, opportunities are significantly more limited, though some post-production and audio companies operate in the greater metro area.
What types of media and entertainment roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
Roles that connect directly to a student's degree program are eligible for CPT. In media and entertainment, this commonly includes production coordination, editorial and content strategy, digital marketing, data analytics for streaming platforms, graphic design, UX research for media products, and journalism. The key requirement is that the work must be an integral part of the student's curriculum or a requirement of their degree, as determined by their Designated School Official.
How do I find media and entertainment F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and visa holders, making it a direct way to search for media and entertainment F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in New York without filtering through listings from employers who do not support work authorization. You can filter by visa type, industry, and state to surface relevant opportunities at production companies, networks, agencies, and digital media firms operating across New York City.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 CPT sponsorship in New York's media sector?
New York's media industry moves on project timelines, which means many CPT positions are tied to specific productions, campaigns, or editorial cycles rather than open-ended internships. Students should confirm that their university's CPT authorization period aligns with the employer's contract dates before accepting an offer. New York also has strong unions in television, film, and journalism, and some unionized environments have rules that affect what tasks student interns can perform, so it is worth clarifying scope with the employer upfront.
