Which insurance companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in North Carolina?
North Carolina-based and regional insurance employers with a track record of STEM OPT sponsorship include Allstate's Charlotte technology hub, Nationwide's regional offices, Lincoln Financial Group, and Erie Indemnity. Larger carriers tend to have established OPT and STEM OPT processes through their HR and legal teams, particularly for actuarial, data science, and software engineering roles tied to STEM-designated degree programs.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte leads the state for insurance STEM OPT roles, driven by its concentration of financial services and insurance carrier headquarters. Raleigh and Durham follow closely, supported by Research Triangle Park's analytics and insurtech presence and proximity to NC State, Duke, and UNC. Greensboro also has a meaningful cluster of insurance operations, particularly in underwriting and claims analytics functions.
What types of insurance roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT must be tied to a STEM-designated degree program listed on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. In insurance, this typically covers actuarial analyst positions, data scientist and predictive modeling roles, software engineers building policy or claims platforms, quantitative risk analysts, and business intelligence developers. General underwriting, sales, or account management roles without a technical degree requirement usually do not qualify.
How do I find insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters insurance jobs in North Carolina by employers with verified F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history, so you can search specifically for roles where the employer has already supported OPT or STEM OPT extensions rather than guessing at willingness. Focus your search on Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, and filter for actuarial, data science, and analytics job titles that align with STEM-designated degree programs.
Are there any North Carolina-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT insurance sponsorship?
North Carolina does not impose state-level restrictions on F-1 STEM OPT employment beyond federal requirements. However, insurance roles requiring a North Carolina Department of Insurance license, such as licensed adjuster or producer positions, may involve additional credentialing steps that employers need to factor into onboarding timelines. STEM OPT roles at employers participating in E-Verify, as required by USCIS for STEM OPT authorization, are the only eligible positions for the 24-month extension.
