JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing patron and visitor assistance, outreach, and group service duties within the Library system.
Job Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma.
Experience:
- Three years’ public or customer service experience required. Experience working in a public library strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a diverse, densely populated community or a major metropolitan area preferred.
- Three years’ experience with personal computers, online tools, resources, databases, and group meeting platforms required. Intermediate proficiency (70% passing) in MS Office or similar software, as well as customer service, is required.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
- Demonstrated intermediate level knowledge of library practices, terminology, and classification systems and technology.
- Demonstrated computer skills including use of Windows, MS Office, internet browsing, group meeting platforms, and library related databases, systems and software. General principles and objectives of information technology systems and programs.
- Maintain knowledge and skills of various current adaptive and emerging technology to support patron, personal and business needs.
- Intermediate level mathematics and English skill.
- Demonstrated knowledge and interest in education, libraries, museums and/or cultural spaces.
- Read, understand, and communicate information and ideas presented in writing. Above average attention to detail for accuracy of legal forms and documents.
- Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
- Proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials prepared and reviewed are complete, succinct, and free of errors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
- Perform patron service inclusive of patron and visitor assistance, outreach, and group service duties within the Library system.
- Collaborate with Arts and Culture staff to create, implement and support exhibit areas. Guide tours of various exhibits and displays. Provide general information about exhibits and engage visitors of all ages, encouraging understanding and appreciation.
- Ensure security and safeguarding policies and practices to ensure the safety of patrons, visitors, artworks and spaces.
- Interact and initiate engagement with visitors and patrons with finding materials and experiencing the Library and its spaces. Connect visitors to areas of the Library.
- Provide daily tasks related to the care and upkeep of public art exhibitions.
- Assist with caring for the resources, art and architecture and contribute ideas to enhance onsite experiences.
- Assist with visits, wayfinding, tours, exhibits and programs. Ensure patrons feel welcomed, supported, safe, and engaged while visiting and/or utilizing library services and programs.
- Assist with community outreach activities and events. Prepare promotional and/or informational materials.
- Place and/or manage orders.
- Process, identify, and/or add records to various software programs.
- Prepare, verify, process and/or organize computer information, library materials, and/or documents/records.
- Perform routine administrative tasks.
- May attend meetings, participate in committees or training, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
