Description:
The Library Outreach Specialist develops and executes library and literacy services through off-site and outreach programming, and the Outreach Van, under the guidance of the Outreach Services Manager. Responsibilities include program planning, community engagement, team collaboration, data collection, and maintaining van resources. This role requires an outgoing personality, strong communication, organizational, and technical skills, and a passion for enhancing library services and community engagement.
Hours Per Week: 40
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Depending upon the area of oversight, duties may include:
- Operate the Outreach Van to transport it safely to designated sites across Osceola County, ensuring adherence to traffic laws and regulations.
- Plan, develop, and implement outreach and off-site library and literacy programs.
- Tailor programs to meet the diverse needs of the communities served.
- Engage with patrons of all ages and stages of life, providing library cards, information, and instruction in a welcoming environment.
- Stay abreast of training, teaching, and communication strategies to best promote library services and engage the community.
- Represent the Osceola Library System at community events, promoting library and literacy services, programs, and resources.
- Cultivate relationships with community organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to enhance outreach efforts.
- Work closely with the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator to coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Outreach Van.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Collect and maintain accurate records of program attendance, community engagement, and service utilization.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and library policies regarding data collection, storage, and reporting.
- Monitor and communicate the inventory and condition of Outreach Van resources.
- Make informed recommendations for additional resources and services.
- Ensure the Outreach Van is well-maintained, reporting any maintenance needs promptly, and scheduling and performing routine check-ups.
- Operate within established logistics of Outreach Van routes and stops, including setup and breakdown procedures.
- Take photos and videos for marketing and historical purposes, following library guidelines.
- Address patron inquiries and concerns with professionalism and sensitivity.
- Perform other duties assigned to support the goals and mission of the Osceola Library System.
Requirements
An individual should possess the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities and have the required education, training, and/or work experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field or a high school diploma or GED and (2) years of equivalent experience in areas directly related to the responsibilities of this position.
- Experience working in a learning or creative environment.
- Experience engaging with a variety of age groups and learning styles.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to continuously learn and develop skills in a changing work environment and to support teammates through organizational changes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organization and project management skills.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- A valid Florida Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Must remain insurable with no major Florida traffic violations.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of staff, patrons, supervisors, and others.
- Comfort with being in front of a camera and photographed or filmed for marketing purposes.
- Ability to work weekends and some evenings.
- Proficiency in and comfort with using and troubleshooting various technologies.
- Ability to follow library policies and procedures.
- Adaptability to work accurately in a changing and varied environment.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, or inclement weather.
- Bilingual English/Spanish highly desirable.
- Will be required to work indoors and outdoors.
- Will be required to sit, stand, and drive for extended periods.
- Will be required to bend, lift, carry, or climb to successfully perform the tasks associated with this position.
