Which government companies sponsor visas in Oklahoma?
Major sponsors include the State of Oklahoma (various agencies), federal contractors at Tinker Air Force Base, tribal governments like Cherokee Nation and Chickasaw Nation, and municipalities in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Department of Health, and Office of Management and Enterprise Services frequently hire international professionals for specialized technical roles requiring advanced degrees.
Which visa types are most common for government roles in Oklahoma?
H-1B visas dominate for specialized government positions requiring bachelor's degrees in fields like computer science, engineering, and public administration. TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican professionals in eligible occupations. O-1 visas occasionally apply for researchers at state universities with government partnerships. Green card sponsorship through PERM is less common but possible for critical long-term positions.
How to find government visa sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for government roles in Oklahoma that offer visa sponsorship. The platform filters positions by visa-friendly employers and tracks which agencies have sponsored international workers previously. Focus on state IT modernization projects, federal defense contracting roles, and tribal government positions that often require specialized skills not readily available domestically.
Which cities in Oklahoma have the most government sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City leads with state government headquarters, federal agencies, and Tinker Air Force Base creating the highest concentration of visa sponsorship opportunities. Tulsa follows with municipal government roles and regional federal offices. Norman offers positions through university-government partnerships, while Lawton provides opportunities through Fort Sill and defense-related government contracting work.
What are the prevailing wage considerations for government jobs in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma's lower cost of living results in prevailing wages that may be below national averages but remain competitive locally. Government positions must meet DOL prevailing wage requirements for visa sponsorship, which often align well with state salary scales. Specialized roles in cybersecurity, data analytics, and engineering typically command higher wages due to skill shortages in these areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored government jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
