Which sports companies and organizations sponsor H-1B visas in Oklahoma?
The Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA) has filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications for sports analytics and operations roles. University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University athletic departments sponsor H-1B workers in coaching, sports science, and sports medicine. Regional sports medicine networks and collegiate conference offices in the state also appear in OFLC disclosure data as H-1B sponsors.
Which cities in Oklahoma have the most sports H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City leads the state for sports H-1B sponsorship, anchored by the Thunder's front office and a growing concentration of sports medicine and fitness industry employers. Tulsa is the secondary market, with sports administration roles tied to the University of Tulsa and regional athletic organizations. Stillwater and Norman generate activity through Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma athletic programs.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B eligibility requires the position to be a specialty occupation, meaning it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. In the sports sector, roles that commonly meet this standard include sports data analyst, sports psychologist, exercise physiologist, athletic trainer with a relevant clinical degree, biomechanics researcher, and sports medicine physician. General coaching or officiating positions typically do not qualify.
How do I find sports H-1B sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and state, so you can search for H-1B-sponsored sports roles in Oklahoma without manually screening each employer. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by employer, letting you verify which Oklahoma sports organizations have actively sponsored H-1B workers before you apply. This is more reliable than browsing general job listings where sponsorship status is rarely disclosed upfront.
Are there any Oklahoma-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in the sports industry?
Oklahoma's sports industry is heavily tied to university athletic programs and one major professional franchise, which means the number of H-1B-sponsoring employers is more concentrated than in larger metro markets. University employers are generally cap-exempt for H-1B purposes, meaning positions at OU, OSU, or other qualifying institutions are not subject to the annual H-1B lottery. Roles at private sports organizations such as the Thunder are cap-subject and go through the standard USCIS registration process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B sports jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
