Which aerospace & defense companies sponsor visas in South Carolina?
Major sponsors include Boeing (North Charleston's 787 production facility), BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and Rolls-Royce. Defense contractors supporting Shaw Air Force Base and Joint Base Charleston also sponsor visas, particularly for engineering roles in avionics, manufacturing, and systems integration. Many suppliers to Boeing's supply chain offer sponsorship opportunities as well.
How to find aerospace & defense visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international candidates with South Carolina aerospace & defense employers who sponsor work visas. Focus on Charleston area opportunities around Boeing's facility, Columbia region defense contractors, and Greenville's aerospace manufacturing hub. Many positions require security clearance eligibility, which typically requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
Which visa types are most common for aerospace & defense roles in South Carolina?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering positions in aerospace manufacturing and defense systems. O-1 visas apply to senior engineers with specialized expertise in aircraft design or defense technology. L-1 visas are common for international transfers within multinational defense contractors. Many positions requiring security clearances are limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most aerospace & defense sponsorship jobs?
Charleston leads with Boeing's 787 manufacturing facility and numerous suppliers in North Charleston. Columbia offers defense contractor opportunities near Shaw Air Force Base and state government contracts. Greenville provides aerospace manufacturing and engineering roles. Sumter and Florence areas have defense-related opportunities due to military installations and contractor presence.
What are prevailing wage considerations for aerospace & defense roles in South Carolina?
South Carolina's lower cost of living results in competitive prevailing wages that are typically 10-20% below national averages for similar roles. However, aerospace & defense positions often command premium wages due to specialized skills requirements. Engineers in Charleston's Boeing facility and defense contractors generally earn wages comparable to national standards despite the state's lower baseline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored aerospace & defense jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
