Which mining and natural resources companies sponsor H-1B visas in Texas?
Companies with documented H-1B visa sponsorship activity in Texas mining and natural resources include ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, and Schlumberger (SLB). Midsize operators in the Permian Basin and oilfield services contractors also file LCAs regularly. Sponsorship history varies by role and year, so reviewing DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data gives the most accurate picture of which employers are actively filing.
Which cities in Texas have the most mining and natural resources H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Houston is the dominant hub, hosting the headquarters or major offices of most large energy and oilfield services companies. Midland and Odessa serve as operational centers for Permian Basin activity and carry significant demand for petroleum engineers and geoscientists. San Antonio and Corpus Christi also see sponsorship activity tied to refining, pipeline operations, and offshore support. Smaller West Texas towns occasionally post field-based roles that qualify.
What types of mining and natural resources roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in this industry typically covers specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Common qualifying roles include petroleum engineers, geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, environmental engineers, drilling engineers, and mining engineers. Process engineers and data scientists supporting extraction operations also qualify. Purely field-labor or equipment-operator positions generally do not meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies.
How do I find mining and natural resources H-1B sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for mining and natural resources roles with confirmed H-1B sponsorship history in Texas, pulling from DOL LCA filing data so you can see which employers have sponsored the visa type before. This is more targeted than a general job search. You can narrow by city, role type, and employer to surface active openings at companies already familiar with the H-1B process in this sector.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in Texas mining and natural resources?
Texas has no state-level work authorization requirements that layer on top of federal H-1B rules, but the industry itself introduces some practical factors. Many Permian Basin and Gulf Coast roles involve site work, which can complicate the worksite address requirements on the Labor Condition Application if assignments move between locations. Employers operating across multiple Texas counties must ensure LCA coverage reflects actual worksites. Prevailing wage levels in engineering specialties vary between Houston metro and West Texas postings, which the OFLC Wage Search reflects by geographic area.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B mining & natural resources jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
