Which technology companies in Virginia sponsor F-1 CPT visas?
Northern Virginia has one of the highest concentrations of technology employers in the country, many of whom work with F-1 CPT students. Federal contractors such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, and Peraton regularly hire interns and co-op students in technical roles. Commercial tech firms clustered around Arlington, Tysons Corner, and Reston, including Capital One's tech division and AWS, also participate in CPT hiring.
Which cities in Virginia have the most technology F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
The Northern Virginia region, particularly Arlington, Reston, Herndon, and McLean, accounts for the majority of technology CPT opportunities in the state. The Tysons Corner corridor is especially active given its high density of defense tech and commercial software firms. Richmond and Charlottesville offer a smaller but growing set of opportunities, particularly through university partnerships with regional tech employers and startups.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in Virginia?
Roles that directly align with a student's field of study are eligible for CPT authorization. In Virginia's technology sector, this commonly includes software engineering internships, data science and analytics positions, cybersecurity analyst roles, cloud infrastructure work, and IT consulting. The position must be integral to or part of the student's academic curriculum, as determined by their Designated School Official (DSO).
How do I find technology F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international students and visa holders, and you can filter directly for F-1 CPT technology roles in Virginia. This removes the guesswork of identifying which employers are open to CPT authorization. Because Northern Virginia has a high volume of federal contractors and tech firms with established international hiring programs, filtering by state and visa type on Migrate Mate surfaces relevant opportunities efficiently.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in the technology industry?
A significant portion of Virginia's technology sector supports federal government work, which means some roles require security clearances. F-1 students are generally not eligible for clearances, so it is worth confirming with employers whether a role has clearance requirements before applying. Non-clearance technology roles at both commercial firms and the unclassified divisions of contractors remain accessible and are common throughout the Northern Virginia and Richmond markets.
