INTRODUCTION
Zoox is building the world's most advanced self-driving hardware and software solution. The efficiency demands of such a system require an expert fine tuning of both the compute hardware architecture as well as the algorithms and middleware that runs on it to achieve maximum throughput at the most optimal power levels.
The Software Performance team’s mission is to analyze, optimize and provide guidance to the software and hardware teams in order to meet the required specifications.
As a GPU performance software engineer within the Software Performance team, you will instrument, monitor, analyze and optimize GPU-based algorithms that are performance-critical for our solution. The scope for GPU usage ranges from traditional computer vision and deep learning architectures to complex geometric reasoning and multi-agent decision making. Your work will strongly influence design decisions of future compute platforms & resource allocation.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
- Build real-time instrumentation for performance monitoring (CPU, GPU, latency, memory) and develop offline benchmarking frameworks, tools, and scripts to evaluate & analyze performance at scale in CI/vehicle, and establish budgets for next-gen architectures.
- Analyze performance metrics to identify GPU hotspots and root causes, and propose and co-implement actionable solutions with component teams.
- Support teams on bringing serial algorithms to the GPU to maximize compute utilization and improve overall latency.
- Work as part of the Core team to design a middleware framework that promotes by default efficient and performant code development by maximizing CPU and GPU.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in computer science or related field and 3+ years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of CUDA as applied to recent GPU microarchitectures (e.g., Ampere, Blackwell) and experience debugging/optimizing GPU kernels using tools like Nsight.
- Strong knowledge of C++ and experience in large code bases, comfortable in Linux development environments.
- Experience in development, debugging, and profiling of complex multiprocess systems (e.g., robotic systems, game engines).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with GPU kernel development in a real-time environment, including PTX-level programming, CPU SIMD instructions (e.g., AVX intrinsics), and custom CUDA layers with frameworks like TensorRT & XLA.
- Hands-on work with ML model optimization (post-training quantization, layer pruning, etc) or hand-tuning GPU kernels (in OpenGL, CUDA, RocM or similar).
- Proficiency with SQL, DataBricks, Looker, or other business intelligence tools.
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary Range: There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.

Which automotive companies sponsor E-3 visas in Washington?
PACCAR, headquartered in Bellevue and operating its Kenworth Truck manufacturing plant in Renton, is one of Washington's most consistent E-3 sponsors in the automotive and commercial vehicle sector. Boeing's ground support and mobility divisions in the Puget Sound area also file Labor Condition Applications for engineering roles. Automotive suppliers and fleet technology firms in the Tacoma and Seattle metro areas round out the sponsoring employer pool.
Which cities in Washington have the most automotive E-3 sponsorship jobs?
Bellevue and Renton lead for corporate and manufacturing roles, anchored by PACCAR's headquarters and Kenworth operations respectively. Seattle draws EV technology and mobility software positions tied to the broader tech-automotive crossover. Tacoma supports supply chain, logistics engineering, and aftermarket roles connected to the Port of Tacoma's vehicle import infrastructure. Spokane has a smaller but active cluster of fleet maintenance and dealership group engineering positions.
What types of automotive roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship in Washington?
Roles that meet the E-3 specialty occupation standard require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. In Washington's automotive sector, qualifying positions commonly include automotive systems engineers, powertrain or chassis design engineers, fleet electrification specialists, quality assurance engineers, and supply chain analysts with engineering credentials. General technician or trade roles without a degree requirement typically do not qualify. USCIS assesses each position individually based on the job duties and degree requirement.
How do I find automotive E-3 sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and state, so you can search for automotive E-3 sponsorship opportunities in Washington without sifting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces employers with verified Labor Condition Application filing history in the automotive sector, giving you a concrete starting point. Filtering by Washington and the automotive industry category on Migrate Mate narrows results to positions where sponsorship is an established employer practice.
Are there any Washington-specific considerations for automotive E-3 sponsorship?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects total compensation benchmarking when employers set prevailing wage figures. The state's strong union presence in manufacturing, particularly around Renton and Tacoma, means some automotive plant roles are covered by collective bargaining agreements that influence LCA wage determinations. Washington's growing EV infrastructure investment also means emerging job categories may lack established prevailing wage data, requiring employers to use the OFLC Wage Search for the closest matching Standard Occupational Classification code.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 automotive jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
