Wealth Advisor Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a wealth advisor in New Jersey?
To work as a wealth advisor in New Jersey, you typically need a bachelor's degree in finance or a related field, followed by passing the FINRA Series 65 exam to register as an Investment Adviser Representative or the Series 7 and Series 66 combination for broker-dealer roles. New Jersey does not issue a separate state wealth advisor license, but investment adviser representatives must register with the New Jersey Bureau of Securities. Earning a CFP designation significantly strengthens your candidacy at most firms.
How much do wealth advisors make in New Jersey?
Wealth advisors in New Jersey earn a median of about $158,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,860 for the lowest 10% to over $374,530 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire wealth advisors in New Jersey?
Employers hiring wealth advisors in New Jersey right now include JPMorganChase, PNC Financial Services, and TSG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's proximity to major Wall Street firms and its large concentration of high-net-worth households in communities like Short Hills, Princeton, and Rumson make it a particularly active market for wealth management hiring.
Which New Jersey cities have the most wealth advisor jobs?
The cities with the most wealth advisor openings in New Jersey are Princeton, Nutley, and Sparta. Newark and Jersey City lead because of their dense concentration of financial services headquarters and regional offices, while Princeton and the surrounding Mercer County corridor attract openings tied to university endowment management, independent RIAs, and the affluent suburban client base those firms serve.
Are there remote wealth advisor jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical roles because wealth advising relies heavily on in-person client relationship-building. About 43% of wealth advisor openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the industry's gradual shift toward flexible models. Client-facing relationship and business development functions almost always require an in-office or local presence, while financial planning analysis and portfolio review work is most likely to be offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a wealth advisor in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a financial advisor associate or client service associate program at a large firm with New Jersey offices, such as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, or Edward Jones, all of which run structured new-advisor development programs that pair trainees with senior advisors. Roles like financial planning associate, client services specialist, or bank personal banker at New Jersey community banks and credit unions also serve as strong lateral moves into wealth management. Passing the Series 65 exam before you apply gives you a concrete credential that separates you from other entry-level candidates.
Where can I find and apply to wealth advisor jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to wealth advisor jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current New Jersey openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each one.
