Accountant Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accountant in Delaware?
Becoming a licensed CPA in Delaware requires a bachelor's degree with qualifying accounting and business credits, passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam, and completing the experience requirement verified by a licensed CPA supervisor. Applications are processed through the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation. Candidates who already hold a CPA license in another state can apply for reciprocal licensure if their home state has substantially equivalent requirements.
How much do accountants make in Delaware?
Accountants in Delaware earn a median of about $95,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,500 for the lowest 10% to over $132,550 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accountants in Delaware?
Delaware accountant roles are posted by CSC, FujiFilm, and WuXi AppTec and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's status as a corporate domicile for thousands of U.S. companies means accounting roles are distributed across headquarter offices, regional finance centers, and state-regulated financial institutions concentrated primarily in the Wilmington area.
Which Delaware cities have the most accountant jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and Middletown have the most accountant openings in Delaware. Wilmington dominates because it is home to major banks, credit card issuers, and corporate finance offices, while Newark benefits from its proximity to the University of Delaware and life sciences employers, and Dover draws openings from state government agencies and regional healthcare organizations.
Are there remote accountant jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields, since accounting work is largely analytical and document-based. About 50% of accountant openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly finance teams have adopted flexible arrangements. Roles in financial reporting, tax compliance, and accounts payable tend to have the highest share of remote options, while positions requiring physical access to records or on-site audit work are more likely to be in-person.
How can I get hired as a accountant in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for staff accountant or accounting associate roles at Delaware's large corporate employers and healthcare systems, where structured new-graduate programs are common. Christiana Care Health System and major financial institutions in Wilmington regularly onboard early-career candidates into rotational or junior accounting roles. Candidates who have completed an internship at a Delaware public accounting firm, earned their bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware's Lerner College of Business, or passed one or more CPA exam sections will stand out against other applicants without full-time experience.
Where can I find and apply to accountant jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to accountant jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings in the state. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your experience and specialization, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your background.
