Adjunct Faculty Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a adjunct faculty in Kansas?
Becoming an adjunct faculty member in Kansas requires at minimum a master's degree in the subject you plan to teach, though doctoral credentials are expected at research universities such as the University of Kansas or Kansas State University. There is no state-issued teaching license required for higher education in Kansas. Most community colleges, including Wichita Area Technical College and Johnson County Community College, have their own application and approval processes that evaluate transcripts and professional experience before placing instructors in classrooms.
Which companies hire adjunct facultys in Kansas?
Employers hiring adjunct facultys in Kansas right now include WSU Tech, Galen College of Nursing, and Kansas City Kansas Community College, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Kansas community colleges and regional universities remain the most consistent sources of adjunct openings, particularly for business, healthcare, and technical instruction.
Which Kansas cities have the most adjunct faculty jobs?
Wichita, Kansas City, and Overland Park have the most adjunct faculty openings in Kansas. Wichita leads due to the concentration of Wichita State University, Friends University, and multiple community college campuses, while Lawrence and Manhattan reflect the staffing needs of the University of Kansas and Kansas State University, both of which regularly bring on adjunct instructors to support enrollment-driven course sections.

Yes, and they are more common than in many fields. About 50% of adjunct faculty openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting the growth of online degree programs at Kansas institutions. Courses in business administration, general education, and writing are most frequently taught fully online, while lab sciences, nursing clinical components, and hands-on technical programs remain predominantly on site.
How can I get hired as a adjunct faculty in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a graduate teaching assistantship at the University of Kansas or Kansas State University, which provides supervised classroom experience before you apply independently. Community colleges such as Johnson County Community College and Hutchinson Community College regularly hire subject-matter professionals with strong industry backgrounds even when formal teaching experience is limited. Building a short teaching portfolio, earning a certificate in online instruction, and applying to introductory-level courses in your specialty are the steps that most frequently lead to a first adjunct contract in Kansas.
