Application Support Specialist Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a application support specialist in Alaska?
Most employers in Alaska require a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or a closely related field, though some accept an associate degree combined with substantial hands-on experience. There is no state-issued license for this role in Alaska. Practical experience with enterprise applications, a vendor certification such as Salesforce Administrator or SAP Certified Associate, and familiarity with Alaska's dominant industries, particularly healthcare systems and state government platforms, strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
Which companies hire application support specialists in Alaska?
Alaska application support specialist roles are posted by Goldbelt, CVS Health, and Baker Hughes and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. State agencies and large Anchorage-based healthcare networks are among the most consistent Alaska employers for this role year-round.
Which Alaska cities have the most application support specialist jobs?
Juneau, Alaska, and Anchorage have the most application support specialist openings in Alaska. Anchorage dominates because it is home to the state's largest hospital networks, oil and gas corporate offices, and the majority of state agency IT departments, while Fairbanks and Juneau follow as secondary hubs driven by the University of Alaska system and state government operations respectively.
Are there remote application support specialist jobs in Alaska?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of application support specialist openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and software-focused nature of the work. Roles involving cloud-hosted platforms and SaaS applications are the most likely to be fully remote, while positions supporting on-premise healthcare or industrial systems typically require an on-site presence in Anchorage or at a field location.
How can I get hired as a application support specialist in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a help desk or IT support technician role at a large Alaska employer such as Providence Health and Services Alaska or a State of Alaska IT division, both of which regularly bring on junior technical staff. From those positions, demonstrating competency with ticketing systems and enterprise software creates a direct route into application support. Earning an entry-level certification such as CompTIA A+ or a vendor-specific SaaS credential while in a support role gives candidates a measurable edge when applying for specialist openings.
