The path depends on the role: pilots must earn the appropriate FAA Airman Certificate through an FAA-approved flight school or Part 141 program, log the required flight hours, and pass written and practical exams. Mechanics pursue an FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate through an FAA-approved aviation maintenance technician school. Texas has numerous FAA-approved programs at community colleges and technical schools, and employers typically require a relevant degree or certificate alongside the federal credential.

Employers hiring aviations in Texas right now include Ardurra, Garver, and STV, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's combination of major commercial airline hubs, military installations, and aerospace manufacturing facilities means a wide range of employer types are consistently active in the market.
Which Texas cities have the most aviation jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio have the most aviation openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads because it serves as the headquarters and operational hub for American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, while Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport and strong energy sector support cargo and corporate aviation, and San Antonio's concentration of military bases drives sustained demand for defense aviation and maintenance roles.

Yes, but they're rare. Most aviation roles require physical presence for flight operations, aircraft maintenance, or airport-based work. About 24% of aviation openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be concentrated in aviation operations coordination, flight dispatch, regulatory compliance, and aviation management rather than hands-on technical or flight roles.

The most realistic entry path is through an FAA-approved aviation maintenance technician school or a Part 141 flight school at a Texas community college such as Tarrant County College or San Jacinto College, which feed directly into regional airline and maintenance programs. American Airlines and Southwest Airlines run structured new-hire and career pipeline programs for early-career candidates, and entry roles like line service technician, ramp agent, or flight dispatcher give candidates hands-on exposure that leads to advancement. Holding a student pilot certificate or an A&P student certificate while completing your program gives you a clear edge.
