Bookkeeper Jobs in New Hampshire: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bookkeeper in New Hampshire?
New Hampshire does not require a state-issued license to work as a bookkeeper, so entry relies on education and credentials. Most employers expect at least an associate degree in accounting or a related field, and many prefer candidates who hold the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers certification or the National Bookkeepers Association certification. Community colleges like NHTI in Concord and Manchester Community College offer accounting programs that align directly with what local employers look for.
Which companies hire bookkeepers in New Hampshire?
Employers hiring bookkeepers in New Hampshire right now include Elm Grove Companies, City of Manchester, NH, and Hannaford, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Hampshire's concentration of mid-size manufacturers, regional healthcare systems, and professional services firms means consistent year-round demand rather than seasonal hiring spikes.
Which New Hampshire cities have the most bookkeeper jobs?
The cities with the most bookkeeper openings in New Hampshire are Manchester, Concord, and Portsmouth. Manchester and Nashua dominate because they hold the largest share of the state's corporate offices, financial services firms, and healthcare institutions, while Concord draws bookkeeper roles tied to state government agencies, nonprofits, and the professional services firms that cluster around the capital.
Are there remote bookkeeper jobs in New Hampshire?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 43% of bookkeeper openings tied to New Hampshire are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to off-site work. Payroll processing, accounts payable, and reconciliation work are the functions most commonly offered fully remote, particularly by small businesses and accounting firms serving clients statewide.
How can I get hired as a bookkeeper in New Hampshire with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for accounts-payable clerk or billing coordinator roles, which New Hampshire healthcare systems like Dartmouth Health and Catholic Medical Center post regularly as stepping stones. Community college accounting programs at NHTI or Manchester Community College let you build relevant coursework quickly. Earning the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers certified bookkeeper credential while in an entry role signals readiness for full-charge work and accelerates advancement at regional employers.
Where can I find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in New Hampshire?
You can find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in New Hampshire on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your background and availability, and apply directly to the ones that match.
