The path to a business development executive role in New Mexico typically starts with a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field, followed by experience in sales, account management, or contract development. No state-issued license is required for the role itself, but candidates targeting New Mexico's defense sector often pursue security clearances through federal contracting employers like Leidos or SAIC, and those in healthcare business development benefit from familiarity with New Mexico Health Connections and Presbyterian Healthcare's partnership structures.
How much do business development executives make in New Mexico?
Business development executives in New Mexico earn a median of about $119,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $88,070 for the lowest 10% to over $165,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development executives in New Mexico?
Companies currently hiring business development executives in New Mexico include Hibu, Target, and Shamrock Foods Company, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Mexico's concentration of national laboratories, defense contractors, and regional healthcare systems means that business development executive openings tend to cluster around long-term government and commercial account relationships.
Which New Mexico cities have the most business development executive jobs?
Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Santa Fe account for the most business development executive openings in New Mexico. Albuquerque drives the largest share as the state's primary commercial and healthcare hub, while Santa Fe draws openings tied to state government contracting and nonprofit partnerships, and Las Cruces benefits from its proximity to White Sands Missile Range and the border region's growing commercial corridor.
Are there remote business development executive jobs in New Mexico?
Yes, and more than many roles, because business development executive work is largely relationship-driven and can be conducted through calls, video meetings, and digital tools. About 65% of business development executive openings tied to New Mexico are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and client-facing nature of the role. Strategy, pipeline management, and proposal development are the functions most commonly performed remotely, while client entertainment and site visits typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a business development executive in New Mexico with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative or account coordinator role at a New Mexico-based government contractor or regional healthcare organization, where you build proposal and client management experience directly. Employers like Leidos and New Mexico-based defense subcontractors often onboard junior business development staff through federal bid-support and capture-assist roles. A background in public administration, political science, or New Mexico state government work also opens doors, as does completing the Shipley proposal management fundamentals course, which is well recognized among New Mexico federal contractors.
