Business Development Executive Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development executive in California?
California does not require a state-issued license to work as a business development executive, so the path is credential- and experience-driven. Most candidates progress through sales, account management, or strategy roles before stepping into an executive position. A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field is standard, and an MBA from a California institution like USC Marshall or UC Berkeley Haas can accelerate promotion into senior roles.
How much do business development executives make in California?
Business development executives in California earn a median of about $139,160 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,850 for the lowest 10% to over $213,370 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development executives in California?
Employers hiring business development executives in California right now include Thermo Fisher Scientific, JPMorganChase, and Cretelligent, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of enterprise technology, biotech, and fintech headquarters means demand is consistent across both startup and Fortune 500 environments throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most business development executive jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and California lead California for business development executive openings. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area dominate because of the high density of SaaS, cloud, and enterprise technology companies headquartered there, while Los Angeles draws demand from media, entertainment technology, and direct-to-consumer brands, and San Diego's strength in biotech and defense creates steady openings for life sciences-focused roles.
Are there remote business development executive jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 69% of business development executive openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on phone, video, and digital outreach rather than physical presence. Strategic partnership and SaaS-focused positions tend to offer the most location flexibility, while roles tied to in-person client entertainment or lab-based life sciences teams are more likely to require on-site work.
How can I get hired as a business development executive in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a business development representative or sales development representative role at a California technology or SaaS company, where structured rotational programs at employers like Salesforce, Adobe, and Oracle give early-career candidates formal training and a clear promotion track. Adjacent roles in account management, inside sales, or marketing operations at California startups also serve as lateral entry points. Completing a Salesforce certification or building a portfolio of outbound campaigns strengthens a candidacy significantly at the executive-track level.
Where can I find and apply to business development executive jobs in California?
