Business Development Executive Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development executive in Illinois?
Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in sales or account management. Business development executive roles in Illinois carry no state-issued license or mandatory certification. Candidates who advance typically build credibility through a record of meeting revenue targets, and earning a recognized credential such as a Certified Professional Sales Person designation can strengthen an application with larger Illinois employers.
How much do business development executives make in Illinois?
Business development executives in Illinois earn a median of about $99,710 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,570 for the lowest 10% to over $162,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development executives in Illinois?
Employers hiring business development executives in Illinois right now include Codal, Lendr, and REPLY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and fast-growing technology and healthcare firms in the Chicago metropolitan area makes it one of the more active states for this role.
Which Illinois cities have the most business development executive jobs?
Chicago, Schaumburg, and Aurora have the most business development executive openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because of its density of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and technology firms, while suburban hubs like Naperville and Schaumburg attract openings tied to major enterprise employers and regional offices that rely on local business development talent to cover Midwest markets.
Are there remote business development executive jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than many fields, since business development work is fundamentally relationship-driven and can often be conducted by phone, video, and occasional travel rather than from a fixed office. About 53% of business development executive openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting employer flexibility. The most remote-friendly segments tend to be SaaS sales development and strategic partnership roles, while industries like manufacturing and healthcare often expect in-territory presence.
How can I get hired as a business development executive in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a business development representative or inside sales associate role at a Chicago-area technology or professional services firm and building toward an executive title from there. Large Illinois employers including Motorola Solutions and Zebra Technologies run structured sales development programs that accept candidates with limited experience. Moving laterally from account management, marketing, or client success positions is also a recognized path, and completing a Salesforce certification or a consultative sales training program gives candidates a concrete edge in Illinois hiring processes.
Where can I find and apply to business development executive jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to business development executive jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
