Business Development Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development manager in California?
Most business development manager roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field, and there is no state-issued license specific to the role. California hiring managers typically look for candidates who have progressed through account executive, sales representative, or partnerships coordinator roles first. Building expertise in a dominant California industry such as technology, biotech, or fintech and demonstrating measurable revenue contributions significantly strengthens a candidacy.
Which companies hire business development managers in California?
Employers hiring business development managers in California right now include TikTok, Apple, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, life sciences firms, and enterprise software companies means business development roles here often involve complex B2B deals or strategic partnership agreements at scale.
Which California cities have the most business development manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose have the most business development manager openings in California. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area dominate because of the dense concentration of technology and SaaS headquarters there, while Los Angeles draws volume from entertainment, media, and consumer technology companies, and San Diego's biotech and defense sectors generate consistent demand for business development professionals.
Are there remote business development manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 28% of business development manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role relies on video calls, digital CRM tools, and virtual relationship management. Strategic partnership and SaaS-focused roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while positions that require regular in-person client meetings or trade-show presence are more likely to be on-site or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a business development manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from an inside sales representative, sales development representative, or account coordinator role at a California technology or life sciences company. Large California employers such as Salesforce, Oracle, and major Bay Area SaaS firms run structured sales development programs that serve as a direct pipeline into business development. Building a portfolio of closed deals or documented partnership wins, even at smaller scale, and earning a certification such as Salesforce Administrator or HubSpot Sales certification gives candidates a measurable edge when applying for junior business development roles.
Where can I find and apply to business development manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to business development manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
