Business Development Manager Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a business development manager job in San Diego?
Focus on San Diego's highest-hiring sectors: defense technology, life sciences, cybersecurity, and B2B SaaS. Employers in Sorrento Valley and the UTC corridor consistently post business development roles, and government contracting firms near the military bases often prioritize candidates with clearance or federal-market experience. A demonstrated ability to build pipeline in a technical or regulated industry gives you a clear edge over generalist candidates in this market.
Which companies hire business development managers in San Diego?
Employers hiring business development managers in San Diego right now include Siry Group, ISEC, and Wesco, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. San Diego's mix of defense contractors, biotech companies, and venture-backed SaaS firms means the hiring landscape is broad, with opportunities ranging from early-stage startups to large publicly traded organizations.
Are there remote business development manager jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though availability depends on the sector, since business development roles tied to government contracting or life sciences lab partnerships tend to require in-person presence, while SaaS and telecom roles are more remote-friendly. About 46% of business development manager openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of November 2026. Strategic account management and inside sales-adjacent responsibilities are the functions most commonly performed remotely in the San Diego market.
How can I get a business development manager job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is moving up from a sales development representative or account executive role at one of the region's many SaaS or defense-tech companies, where internal promotions to business development manager are common. Life sciences companies clustered in Torrey Pines and Sorrento Mesa also hire junior business development associates who support partnership and licensing teams. Building familiarity with government procurement or clinical research commercialization will set you apart from other entry-level candidates in this city.
Which industries hire the most business development managers in San Diego?
San Diego business development manager roles concentrate in Waste Management & Environmental Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. San Diego's deep roots in military technology, genomics, and wireless communications create sustained demand for business development professionals who can navigate complex, relationship-driven sales cycles in highly specialized sectors.
