Technical Sales Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales manager in California?
The most direct path is pairing a technical undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or a physical science with several years of individual-contributor technical sales experience before moving into management. California employers in semiconductor, medtech, and enterprise software typically promote from within or recruit candidates who have closed complex deals in a comparable industry. No state-issued license is required for the role, but product certifications from vendors common in California markets, such as Salesforce or AWS, strengthen a candidate's file considerably.
How much do technical sales managers make in California?
Technical sales managers in California earn a median of about $134,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,430 for the lowest 10% to over $300,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales managers in California?
Employers hiring technical sales managers in California right now include Google, Accellor, and Anthropic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of technology, life sciences, and clean-energy companies means hiring is spread across both established enterprises and well-funded growth-stage firms headquartered throughout the Bay Area, San Diego, and greater Los Angeles.
Which California cities have the most technical sales manager jobs?
San Francisco, San Jose, and Fremont consistently post the most technical sales manager openings in California. San Jose and the broader Bay Area lead because of the region's concentration of enterprise software, semiconductor, and hardware companies, while San Diego's biotech and defense corridors drive strong demand there, and Los Angeles reflects demand from its growing technology and media-tech employer base.
Are there remote technical sales manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many management roles, because technical sales managers often oversee geographically distributed teams and conduct discovery calls and demos digitally. About 40% of technical sales manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the sales cycle now runs through video and cloud-based demo environments. The parts of the role most likely to stay fully remote are pipeline management, forecasting, and team coaching calls, while enterprise account meetings and trade shows still draw managers on-site.
How can I get hired as a technical sales manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a sales development representative or solutions engineer role at a California technology or life sciences company, then building a record of quota attainment before seeking a team-lead promotion. Large California employers such as those in the Bay Area SaaS ecosystem and San Diego's medtech corridor regularly hire associate or junior technical sales professionals as a pipeline for future managers. Completing a recognized CRM certification and contributing to deal cycles end-to-end gives candidates without a management title a concrete story to tell in interviews.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to technical sales manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across sectors including enterprise software, life sciences, semiconductor equipment, and industrial technology. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly from each listing.
