Technical Sales Manager Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales manager in Ohio?
Most technical sales managers in Ohio start with a bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial technology, or a related technical field, then move into inside or field sales roles to build product and territory knowledge. Ohio does not require a state-issued license specifically for technical sales managers, so advancement depends on demonstrated sales performance and technical credibility. Earning credentials such as a Certified Professional Manufacturers' Representative designation or completing vendor-specific product certifications strengthens candidacy for management roles.
How much do technical sales managers make in Ohio?
Technical sales managers in Ohio earn a median of about $135,510 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,190 for the lowest 10% to over $251,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales managers in Ohio?
Employers hiring technical sales managers in Ohio right now include Vertiv, Trane Technologies, and Engineered Air, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's dense concentration of industrial manufacturers, medical device companies, and automation integrators means demand for this role remains broad across both large enterprises and regional distributors.
Which Ohio cities have the most technical sales manager jobs?
Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati have the most technical sales manager openings in Ohio. Columbus draws volume from its corporate headquarters concentration and fast-growing technology sector, Cleveland is anchored by industrial manufacturing and healthcare systems, and Cincinnati benefits from its cross-border presence with major consumer goods and aerospace employers operating regional sales teams out of the metro.
Are there remote technical sales manager jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based roles because technical sales managers typically need to visit client facilities, conduct product demonstrations, and support implementation on-site. About 79% of technical sales manager openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and where remote options exist they tend to cover inside sales coordination, account management, and pre-sales engineering support rather than field-facing territory roles.
How can I get hired as a technical sales manager in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an inside sales, sales engineer associate, or applications engineer role at a large Ohio industrial employer, then building toward a management title. Companies like Parker Hannifin and Rockwell Automation run rotational sales development programs that take candidates with engineering degrees and no direct sales background. A technical degree, a strong grasp of manufacturing processes, and completion of a product-specific certification significantly improve candidacy for those entry-level pipelines.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales manager jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to technical sales manager jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your technical background and territory preference, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
