Technical Sales Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales manager in Massachusetts?
Most technical sales managers in Massachusetts begin with a bachelor's degree in engineering, biology, computer science, or business and spend several years in a field sales or applications engineering role. Massachusetts does not require a state-issued license for this position. Employers in life sciences and defense typically expect deep product expertise, so advancing through a technical specialist or sales engineer role at a Massachusetts-based company is the most common path to a management seat.
How much do technical sales managers make in Massachusetts?
Technical sales managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $191,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $100,510 for the lowest 10% to over $321,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring technical sales managers in Massachusetts right now include Thermo Fisher Scientific, Trane Technologies, and Socomec, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's dense concentration of biotech, medtech, and defense contractors means demand for managers who can translate complex products into commercial outcomes remains consistently high.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most technical sales manager jobs?
Boston, Wilmington, and Massachusetts account for the largest share of technical sales manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston drives volume through its biotech corridor and enterprise software firms clustered in the Seaport and Kendall Square, while Waltham and Burlington serve as regional headquarters for medtech and defense technology companies that maintain dedicated commercial sales teams.
Are there remote technical sales manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, though remote options are more limited than in purely desk-based roles because the position often requires on-site product demonstrations, client visits, and territory coverage. About 63% of technical sales manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how many employers accept hybrid arrangements for the planning and strategy portions of the role while keeping field activity in person.
How can I get hired as a technical sales manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is landing a sales development representative or applications engineer role at a Massachusetts life sciences or technology company and building a record of quota attainment before moving into management. Larger Massachusetts employers such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and PTC run associate commercial programs that recruit candidates with technical degrees and limited sales backgrounds. A relevant certification from a professional sales organization or a graduate degree in a technical field can also help a candidate stand out for internal promotions.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales manager jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to technical sales manager jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to see roles that match your background and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
