Business Development Specialist Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development specialist in Massachusetts?
Most Massachusetts employers expect a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a directly related field as the baseline credential. There is no state-issued license required to work in business development in Massachusetts. From there, candidates typically build experience through inside sales, account management, or marketing coordinator roles before moving into dedicated business development positions, and earning a credential such as the Certified Business Development Professional designation strengthens a candidacy considerably.
How much do business development specialists make in Massachusetts?
Business development specialists in Massachusetts earn a median of about $101,810 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,090 for the lowest 10% to over $166,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development specialists in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring business development specialists in Massachusetts right now include Steer, US LBM, and Heilind, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of life sciences companies, enterprise software firms, and financial institutions means demand for business development talent remains broad across sectors.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most business development specialist jobs?
Boston, South Dennis, and Worcester currently have the most business development specialist openings in Massachusetts. Boston and Cambridge drive the largest share of listings because of the dense cluster of biotech, fintech, and professional services headquarters there, while Worcester's expanding healthcare and manufacturing base supports a growing number of regional business development roles.
Are there remote business development specialist jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields, because business development work centered on outreach, proposals, and relationship management translates well to distributed settings. About 57% of business development specialist openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely employers have adopted flexible arrangements for this role. The parts of the job most likely to remain fully remote are outbound prospecting, market research, and pipeline reporting.
How can I get hired as a business development specialist in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a sales development representative or business development associate role, which Massachusetts technology and life sciences companies routinely use as training pipelines. Large employers such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and MathWorks hire new graduates directly into associate programs with structured onboarding. Candidates who come from customer success, marketing coordination, or inside sales backgrounds make a natural lateral move, and completing a recognized sales methodology training or earning a HubSpot certification visibly strengthens an application.
Where can I find and apply to business development specialist jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to business development specialist jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
