The typical path into the field in New York runs through inside sales, account coordination, or marketing associate roles at financial services firms, tech companies, or professional services firms in the metro area. Earning a credential such as a Certified Business Development Expert designation strengthens a candidacy, particularly for roles at larger New York institutions.

Business development specialists in New York earn a median of about $98,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,070 for the lowest 10% to over $165,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development specialists in New York?
Employers hiring business development specialists in New York right now include USI Insurance Services, JPMorganChase, and Bloomberg, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Which New York cities have the most business development specialist jobs?
New York, Buffalo, and Rye Brook have the most business development specialist openings in New York. New York City drives the large majority of demand given its concentration of financial services headquarters, enterprise technology firms, and media companies, while White Plains and Albany attract openings tied to regional corporate offices, state government contractors, and healthcare organizations headquartered in those corridors.

Firms like Salesforce, Publicis Groupe, and major New York-based insurance carriers run associate and rotational programs that feed into full specialist roles. Lateral moves from marketing coordinator, client services, or account management positions are equally common. A demonstrated ability to qualify leads and a working knowledge of CRM software give early-career candidates a concrete edge in New York interviews.
