Business Development Representative Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development representative in Massachusetts?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a business development representative in Massachusetts. Most employers expect at least a bachelor's degree, commonly in business, marketing, or communications, though candidates from any major who can demonstrate strong communication and prospecting skills are regularly considered. Building familiarity with CRM tools, completing a sales development bootcamp, or gaining experience in a customer-facing role gives candidates a practical edge in this competitive market.
How much do business development representatives make in Massachusetts?
Business development representatives in Massachusetts earn a median of about $83,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,030 for the lowest 10% to over $162,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development representatives in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring business development representatives in Massachusetts right now include ICBD, Jobot, and Workhuman, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's dense concentration of SaaS companies, biotech firms, and financial technology providers means sustained demand for business development representatives across a range of company sizes.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most business development representative jobs?
Boston, Newton, and Waltham have the most business development representative openings in Massachusetts. Boston dominates because it is home to a high concentration of enterprise software, life sciences, and fintech headquarters, while Cambridge and Waltham contribute significantly through their established tech corridors along Route 128 where companies like HubSpot, Rapid7, and Akamai maintain large inside sales operations.
Are there remote business development representative jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields, since business development work is largely phone and email based and does not require a physical presence. About 67% of business development representative openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely the role has shifted to distributed teams. Fully remote postings are most common at mid-size SaaS companies, while enterprise employers in financial services tend to prefer hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a business development representative in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to sales development representative or SDR associate roles at Boston-area SaaS companies, many of which hire recent graduates with no prior sales experience and provide structured onboarding. Companies like HubSpot and Rapid7 run formal sales development programs designed for early-career candidates. Completing a sales methodology course, building familiarity with Salesforce or HubSpot CRM, and gaining experience in retail, customer service, or account management roles strengthens a first application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to business development representative jobs in Massachusetts?
