Business Development Representative Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development representative in New Jersey?
Most business development representative roles in New Jersey require a bachelor's degree, though no state-issued license applies to the role itself. New Jersey employers, particularly in pharmaceuticals, financial services, and technology, typically look for candidates with a degree in business, marketing, or communications plus some exposure to sales through internships or adjacent roles. Building proficiency in CRM tools and completing vendor certifications from platforms like Salesforce or HubSpot strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do business development representatives make in New Jersey?
Business development representatives in New Jersey earn a median of about $79,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,290 for the lowest 10% to over $167,430 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development representatives in New Jersey?
Employers hiring business development representatives in New Jersey right now include Power Home Remodeling, ICBD, and Flatpay, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's dense concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, managed care organizations, and enterprise technology companies means demand for this role stays consistent throughout the year.
Which New Jersey cities have the most business development representative jobs?
Somerset, Hackensack, and Toms River have the most business development representative openings in New Jersey. Newark draws volume from financial services and logistics firms, while Parsippany and Princeton benefit from the heavy concentration of pharmaceutical, life sciences, and consulting company headquarters clustered along the Route 1 and I-287 corridors, making those suburban markets surprisingly active for commercial roles.
Are there remote business development representative jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields, since business development representative work centers on phone, email, and video outreach that translates well to remote settings. About 38% of business development representative openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly companies have extended flexible arrangements to inside-sales roles. Fully remote positions are most common in SaaS and enterprise software, while roles requiring in-person client visits or territory coverage tend to stay hybrid.
How can I get hired as a business development representative in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an SDR or sales development associate role, which many New Jersey-based pharmaceutical and technology companies use as a structured starting point for people without direct sales experience. Large employers like Cognizant and regional managed care organizations run rotational or associate programs where candidates enter through marketing coordination or account support before moving into outbound business development. A completed Salesforce Administrator or HubSpot Sales certification gives candidates a measurable edge when competing against peers with similar academic backgrounds.
