Area Sales Manager Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a area sales manager in New Jersey?
Most area sales manager roles in New Jersey require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a field related to the industry you are selling into, such as life sciences for pharmaceutical roles. New Jersey does not require a general state license to work in sales management, but roles in regulated industries like insurance or real estate sales management require a New Jersey-issued producer or broker license from the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. Employers typically promote from within their own sales teams or hire candidates with several years of direct field sales experience.
How much do area sales managers make in New Jersey?
Area sales managers in New Jersey earn a median of about $173,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $103,580 for the lowest 10% to over $308,630 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire area sales managers in New Jersey?
Employers hiring area sales managers in New Jersey right now include Bracco Amt, Bracco Medical Technologies, and BD, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, distribution hubs, and financial services firms means demand is broad across industries rather than limited to a single sector.
Which New Jersey cities have the most area sales manager jobs?
The cities with the most area sales manager openings in New Jersey are Princeton, Newark, and Elizabeth. This distribution reflects Newark's role as a logistics and corporate hub, Edison's dense corridor of pharmaceutical and technology employers, and Princeton's concentration of life sciences and consulting headquarters, all of which generate consistent territory-based sales management needs.
Are there remote area sales manager jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're rare. Area sales management is fundamentally a field role that requires in-person account visits and team oversight, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 63% of area sales manager openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those listings typically involve inside sales teams or accounts that are managed primarily by phone and video. The most remote-compatible sub-functions are account planning, forecasting, and team coaching, rather than territory coverage.
How can I get hired as a area sales manager in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a territory representative or account executive role within the same New Jersey employer, since most large companies including those in the pharmaceutical corridor along Route 1 promote internally before posting externally. Candidates without prior management experience can strengthen their position by completing a formal leadership development program, several of which are offered by New Jersey-based pharmaceutical and medical device firms, or by transitioning laterally from a related role such as regional account coordinator or sales operations analyst. A documented record of quota achievement in a field sales position carries more weight than a credential in most New Jersey hiring decisions.
Where can I find and apply to area sales manager jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to area sales manager jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current New Jersey openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and territory preference, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
