VP Business Development Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vp business development in New Jersey?
Becoming a vp business development in New Jersey typically follows a progression through individual contributor sales or partnerships roles into management before reaching the VP level, with no state-issued license required. Most hiring managers in New Jersey expect a bachelor's degree at minimum, often paired with an MBA from institutions like Rutgers or Seton Hall. Candidates who have managed regional teams or closed complex deals within Northeast markets move into VP consideration most quickly.
How much do VP business developments make in New Jersey?
VP business developments in New Jersey earn a median of about $173,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $103,580 for the lowest 10% to over $308,630 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire vp business developments in New Jersey?
Employers hiring vp business developments in New Jersey right now include Citi, MUFG, and Med-Metrix, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's dense concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, financial services firms, and enterprise technology companies means demand for senior business development leadership stays relatively consistent throughout the year.
Which New Jersey cities have the most vp business development jobs?
The cities with the most vp business development openings in New Jersey are Jersey City, Parsippany-Troy Hills, and Voorhees. Newark anchors the market through its proximity to New York City financial and tech ecosystems, Princeton draws heavily from the life sciences and research corridor along Route 1, and Parsippany functions as a hub for large corporate headquarters in logistics, insurance, and professional services that require senior commercial leadership.
Are there remote vp business development jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields, since business development work at the VP level is relationship-driven and often conducted off-site. About 80% of vp business development openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the strategic rather than location-bound nature of the role. The components most likely to remain fully remote are pipeline strategy, partner negotiations, and executive presentations, while in-person attendance is generally expected for key client meetings and internal leadership sessions.
How can I get hired as a vp business development in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a record in an account executive, partnerships manager, or business development manager role at a New Jersey company before making the case for VP consideration. Large New Jersey employers in life sciences and financial services, including those headquartered along the Route 1 corridor, often promote from within when a candidate has demonstrated regional market ownership. Earning an MBA from Rutgers Business School or completing a formal leadership development program strengthens a promotion case significantly.
Where can I find and apply to vp business development jobs in New Jersey?
