Communications Specialist Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a communications specialist in New Jersey?
Communications specialist roles in New Jersey do not require a state-issued license or registration. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing. New Jersey's dense concentration of pharmaceutical and financial services headquarters means employers often value candidates who have coursework or experience in regulated-industry communications. Building a portfolio of writing samples, press releases, or campaign work is the most reliable way to stand out in this market.
Which companies hire communications specialists in New Jersey?
Employers hiring communications specialists in New Jersey right now include Avis Budget, ADP, and Weichert, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, major hospital systems, and state government agencies means openings appear across corporate, nonprofit, and public sector communications teams year-round.
Which New Jersey cities have the most communications specialist jobs?
Camden, Bellmawr, and Montvale have the most communications specialist openings in New Jersey. Newark's density of corporate headquarters and financial institutions drives the largest share of listings, while Trenton generates consistent demand through state government and public affairs roles, and Princeton attracts communications talent through its concentration of pharmaceutical companies and research institutions.
Are there remote communications specialist jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of communications specialist openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based, writing-driven nature of the work. Content strategy, internal communications, and digital media roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while public affairs and media relations positions more often require an on-site or hybrid presence.
How can I get hired as a communications specialist in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or communications coordinator role with a New Jersey-based employer in pharma, healthcare, or state government, where structured programs for new graduates are common. Large New Jersey employers like hospital systems and state agencies regularly post entry-level communications assistant and public affairs associate roles. Adjacent positions in marketing coordination, content writing, or administrative communications support are also practical starting points. A writing portfolio, even from academic or volunteer work, meaningfully strengthens an entry-level application.
Where can I find and apply to communications specialist jobs in New Jersey?
