Business Development Representative Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development representative in Illinois?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a business development representative in Illinois. Most employers hire candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, communications, or a related field, though some accept an associate degree paired with relevant sales experience. The practical path in Illinois involves targeting companies in Chicago's SaaS, fintech, or healthcare technology sectors, where BDR roles are structured around formal sales development programs with coaching and quota ramp periods.
How much do business development representatives make in Illinois?
Business development representatives in Illinois earn a median of about $66,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,530 for the lowest 10% to over $154,070 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development representatives in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring business development representatives in Illinois include State Farm, Box, and Victory Lap, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of enterprise technology, logistics, and financial services headquarters in the Chicago metro makes it one of the more active states for BDR recruitment year-round.
Which Illinois cities have the most business development representative jobs?
Chicago, Downers Grove, and Bloomington account for the largest share of business development representative openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the bulk of demand as home to corporate headquarters across SaaS, healthcare IT, and financial services, while Schaumburg and Naperville support significant BDR hiring through the tech campuses and regional offices of large enterprise companies anchored along the I-90 and I-88 corridors.
Are there remote business development representative jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 52% of business development representative openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and phone-driven nature of the role. Fully remote openings are most common in software and technology companies, where outbound prospecting is conducted entirely through digital channels and video calls rather than in-person visits.
How can I get hired as a business development representative in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured sales development programs at Chicago-area technology and SaaS companies, many of which hire candidates with no prior sales experience and train from the ground up. Companies in the Chicago tech scene regularly hire new graduates into BDR associate roles, treating them as a pipeline into account executive positions. Moving laterally from customer success, retail management, or recruiting roles is also a recognized path because those positions build the objection-handling and communication skills Illinois hiring managers look for.
Where can I find and apply to business development representative jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to business development representative jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level, industry focus, and preferred location or remote arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
