Sales Leader Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales leader in California?
Most sales leaders in California move up from individual contributor roles by consistently exceeding quota and taking on mentorship responsibilities within their team. California employers in technology, life sciences, and financial services typically expect a bachelor's degree and several years of closing experience before promoting into a leadership role. Relevant certifications such as Certified Sales Leadership Professional can strengthen a candidacy, and many Bay Area and Los Angeles companies run internal leadership development tracks for high performers.
How much do sales leaders make in California?
Sales leaders in California earn a median of about $81,140 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,200 for the lowest 10% to over $155,150 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales leaders in California?
Employers hiring sales leaders in California right now include American Eagle Outfitters, Target, and USI Insurance Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of enterprise technology headquarters and life sciences companies means that demand is particularly steady in the Bay Area and greater San Diego region throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most sales leader jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Carlsbad have the most sales leader openings in California right now. The Bay Area leads because of its dense cluster of enterprise software, cloud, and semiconductor companies that maintain large direct sales organizations, while Los Angeles draws volume from media, fintech, and healthcare employers, and San Diego's strength in biotech and defense drives consistent demand for medical and government sales leadership.
Are there remote sales leader jobs in California?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical roles because sales leadership in California typically involves in-person team coaching, customer meetings, and on-site presence. About 9% of sales leader openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements more prevalent than fully remote. Strategic and operational roles such as director of sales strategy or national accounts leadership tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get hired as a sales leader in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to start as a senior account executive or team lead at a mid-size California technology or life sciences company and build a documented coaching record before moving into a formal leadership title. Large Bay Area employers including Salesforce, Oracle, and Workday run structured sales development and associate manager programs designed for high-performing individual contributors. Completing a Certified Sales Leadership Professional credential or an MBA from a California institution signals readiness for management and helps candidates stand out in competitive applicant pools.
Where can I find and apply to sales leader jobs in California?
