Business Development Lead Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development lead in South Dakota?
Most business development lead roles in South Dakota require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, along with several years of sales or account management experience. There is no state-issued license for this role in South Dakota. Employers in Sioux Falls and Rapid City typically look for candidates who have moved up from inside sales, account executive, or sales representative positions, with a record of closing and growing accounts in competitive markets.
How much do business development leads make in South Dakota?
Business development leads in South Dakota earn a median of about $105,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,110 for the lowest 10% to over $177,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business development leads in South Dakota?
South Dakota business development lead roles are posted by CVS Health, Sanford Health, and The Bancorp and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's mix of healthcare systems, regional banks, and technology manufacturers means openings appear across a broader range of industries than many similarly sized states.
Which South Dakota cities have the most business development lead jobs?
Sioux Falls, Pierre, and Lead have the most business development lead openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls drives the largest share of listings as the state's commercial center, anchored by major employers in financial services and healthcare, while Rapid City draws openings tied to tourism, energy, and regional manufacturing, and Aberdeen reflects demand from agricultural supply and distribution companies headquartered there.
Are there remote business development lead jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, and more than most fields, since business development work is relationship-driven but rarely requires a fixed on-site presence. About 17% of business development lead openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and travel-oriented nature of the role. Account management and partnership development duties are the functions most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a business development lead in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an inside sales or sales development representative role at a Sioux Falls-based financial services firm or a regional healthcare technology company, where progression to a lead position is well established. Sanford Health and local fintech firms in Sioux Falls occasionally post rotational or associate sales programs. Building a portfolio of closed deals or a measurable pipeline, even from a smaller account base, carries more weight than credentials alone for most South Dakota hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to business development lead jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to business development lead jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that fit your experience level, industry background, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
