Business Office Associate Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business office associate in California?
Most California employers require at least an associate degree in business administration, health information management, or a related field, along with hands-on experience in medical billing or front-office operations. While California does not mandate a single state license for the role, many employers strongly prefer candidates who hold a Certified Professional Biller credential from the American Academy of Professional Coders or a Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist designation, both recognized widely by California healthcare systems.
How much do business office associates make in California?
Business office associates in California earn a median of about $48,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,190 for the lowest 10% to over $73,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business office associates in California?
Employers hiring business office associates in California right now include State Street, Carmax Business Services, and Carmax Business Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large integrated health networks and university medical centers account for a significant share of ongoing openings, particularly in revenue cycle and patient accounts departments.
Which California cities have the most business office associate jobs?
Irvine, Los Angeles, and San Francisco have the most business office associate openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its concentration of major hospital networks, specialty clinics, and corporate headquarters, while Sacramento's density of state government health agencies and UC Davis Health drives demand there, and San Diego's large military-affiliated medical centers and biotech-adjacent healthcare groups sustain consistent hiring.
Are there remote business office associate jobs in California?
Yes, and they are more common than in many healthcare roles because billing, insurance verification, and account follow-up work can be done off-site once systems access is established. About 10% of business office associate openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote options appearing most often in revenue cycle, medical billing, and insurance authorization positions rather than front-desk or patient-facing roles.
How can I get hired as a business office associate in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a patient services representative or medical receptionist role at a California clinic or hospital, which builds the scheduling, insurance verification, and EHR skills employers expect. Large California health systems such as Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health run structured administrative onboarding programs for candidates new to healthcare operations. Completing a medical billing certificate through a California community college and gaining familiarity with Medi-Cal billing procedures gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without prior experience.
Where can I find and apply to business office associate jobs in California?
You can find and apply to business office associate jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across healthcare systems, higher education, and business services. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
