Case Manager Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a case manager in Montana?
Most Montana case manager roles require a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or human services, and many employers prefer or require state licensure through the Montana Board of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors. The Licensed Bachelor Social Worker credential is the common entry-level license, while clinical roles typically require the Licensed Clinical Social Worker designation. Some healthcare case management positions also value or require the Certified Case Manager credential from ACMA.
Which companies hire case managers in Montana?
Montana case manager roles are posted by Aware, Benefis Health System, and AWARE and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Large integrated health systems, tribal health programs, and state-contracted behavioral health agencies are among the most consistent sources of case manager openings across Montana.
Which Montana cities have the most case manager jobs?
Bozeman, Billings, and Missoula have the most case manager openings in Montana. Billings drives the largest share due to its concentration of regional health systems and behavioral health providers, while Missoula's university-affiliated clinics and Great Falls' VA and community health network contribute steady demand in those markets.
Are there remote case manager jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since many case manager roles involve in-person client contact, home visits, or on-site coordination. About 7% of case manager openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Utilization review, insurance-based case management, and telephonic care coordination are the sub-specialties most likely to offer remote options.
How can I get hired as a case manager in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for case manager aide, care coordinator, or social services assistant roles at Montana's large health systems such as Billings Clinic or St. James Healthcare, which regularly hire candidates without direct case management experience. Completing a field placement or internship through a Montana university social work program, earning your LBSW, and gaining experience in adjacent roles like crisis line work or residential support can all strengthen an early application.
Where can I find and apply to case manager jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to case manager jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever positions fit.
