Medical Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:
- Update and maintain all digital client records and assist in transitioning hard copy records to digital format
- Record patient information such as vital signs, weight and changes in medical history prior to each appointment
- Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments
- Work in the front office taking care of tasks such as answering phone calls and checking patients in as they enter the facility, checking patients out as they exit the facility
- Assist the nurse and office manager in maintaining the medical inventory and placing orders for new materials as needed
- Perform point-of-care laboratory tests, EKGs as ordered or indicated, suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and other patient care activities
- Authorize prescription refills as directed
- Schedule patient appointments/follow-up appointments following established policies and procedures
- Prepare and administer PO, IM, and ID medications as directed by the Physician or Advanced Practice Provider, utilizing the “Rights of Vaccine or Medication Administration”
- Demonstrate kindness and compassion in all patient interactions
- Effectively communicate unexpected schedule delays to patients and assists with patient comfort should delays arise
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations such as HIPAA and OSHA
Medical Assistant Qualifications/Skills:
- High School Diploma/Equivalency required
- Certified Medical Assistant or eligible within 90 days of hire
- CPR Certification or within 90 days of hire
- Medical Lab Personnel license within 90 days of hire ( https://nvdpbh.aithent.com/login.aspx)
- Experience in healthcare preferred
- Experience with EMR (electronic medical records)
