About Scale Computing
Scale Computing is the leader in edge computing, virtualization, and hyperconverged solutions for customers around the globe. The company transforms the way businesses use infrastructure technology through the delivery of innovative products and services, with a philosophy of innovation and employee empowerment driving its commitment to best-in-class customer experiences, partner success, and shareholder return. Employees, known internally as "Scalers," operate by five core values: Vigilant, Owner, Integrity, Champion, and Empower.
About the Role
Scale Computing is adding a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to its executive team to build and lead the marketing function as a strategic growth engine for the company. The CMO will own marketing strategy, demand generation, brand, and channel enablement at the executive level, with a seat at the leadership table and direct accountability for pipeline and revenue impact.
This is an in-office role based at our Austin, TX or Indianapolis, IN offices.
We are looking for a proven marketing executive with deep experience in channel-centric, partner-led sales motions: someone who has built demand generation engines that fuel indirect sales through resellers, MSPs, VARs, or distributors, not just direct or PLG motions. As Scale Computing's product portfolio has expanded, this leader will be responsible for scaling the marketing infrastructure, team, and strategy to generate qualified pipeline across every product line and every channel partner tier.
What You'll Do
- Define and own overall marketing strategy, brand positioning, and go-to-market plans across Scale Computing's full product portfolio.
- Grow Scale Computing’s channel marketing function, including partner marketing programs, co-branded campaigns, MDF/co-op strategy, and partner enablement content that drives pipeline through resellers, MSPs, distributors, and VARs.
- Design and scale demand generation programs (direct and partner-sourced) that produce qualified, sales-ready leads and measurable pipeline and marketing-sourced revenue across all product lines, including newly acquired or launched offerings.
- Partner closely with Sales and Channel/Partner leadership to align marketing investment with pipeline targets, partner tiering, and revenue goals.
- Shape the marketing team's structure, hiring plan, and budget to support a multi-product, channel-heavy growth strategy.
- Own brand strategy and positioning as the product portfolio broadens, ensuring message-market fit across new and existing offerings.
- Establish marketing operations, attribution, and reporting (MQLs, pipeline contribution, CAC, marketing-sourced revenue) to prove pipeline and revenue impact from both direct and channel-sourced marketing.
- Represent marketing at the executive/board level, tying marketing strategy directly to company growth objectives.
Requirements:
- 10+ years in senior marketing leadership, including prior experience as a CMO or VP of Marketing at a larger scale; Bachelor's degree required, MBA a plus.
- Demonstrated success building and scaling channel/partner marketing programs: you understand co-op/MDF, partner enablement, and how to generate demand through a partner ecosystem, not just direct sales.
- Track record of building lead generation and demand gen engines that scale across a growing or diversifying product portfolio.
- Experience in B2B technology, infrastructure, or IT channel markets strongly preferred (e.g., hardware, hyperconverged infrastructure, edge computing, or similar).
- Executive presence and experience operating as a strategic partner to the CEO and sales leadership, not just a campaign operator.
- Strong people-leadership skills, with experience growing and developing marketing teams to meet a company’s evolving needs.
- Data-driven approach to marketing investment, with fluency in pipeline/revenue attribution across direct and channel sources; energized by building new programs as well as strengthening what's already working.
Benefits
Scale Computing offers a comprehensive benefits package, effective the first of the month following your date of hire:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Company-paid life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability
- Flexible Spending Accounts, additional life/AD&D coverage, critical illness and hospital indemnity, legal insurance, and pet insurance
- 401(k) plan
- Employee-directed Paid Time Off (no fixed annual allotment) plus 10 paid company holidays
- Paid parental leave for births, adoptions, and foster placements
- Volunteer Time Off (VTO)
Equal Opportunity Employer
Scale Computing is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Tips for Your Chief Marketing Officer Job Search
Tailor your portfolio to the company stage
A board deck that worked at a Series B startup reads differently to a Fortune 500 search committee. Match your case studies to the company's growth stage, early-stage roles want scrappy channel experiments, enterprise roles want cross-functional alignment and brand governance examples.
Search by reporting structure not just title
CMO roles vary wildly depending on whether you report to the CEO, CFO, or COO. Filter openings by company size and funding stage to predict the actual scope before applying, since the same title can mean a team of three or a department of two hundred.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists chief marketing officer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a point of view on the category
CMO interviews almost always include an unprompted question about the competitive landscape or a 30-60-90 day plan. Walk in with a clear, defensible perspective on where the company's category is heading and what that means for brand and demand strategy.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate compensation
Before finalizing an offer, confirm budget authority, headcount sign-off, and whether you own revenue targets or share them with sales. CMOs who skip this step often inherit a role with accountability but no real control over the levers that drive outcomes.
Chief Marketing Officer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most chief marketing officers?
The companies hiring the most chief marketing officers right now include William & Mary, Webull Financial, and BHC, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand tends to concentrate in technology, consumer brands, and healthcare services companies undergoing growth or transformation.
How many chief marketing officer jobs are remote?
About 71% of chief marketing officer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the senior-level flexibility many companies now offer for executive roles. Demand generation, content strategy, and performance marketing functions within the CMO scope tend to be the most remote-friendly, while brand and communications work tied to in-person culture often requires more on-site presence.
How do you become a chief marketing officer?
Most chief marketing officers reach the role by building deep expertise in one or two marketing disciplines, then expanding into general management by owning a P&L or leading cross-functional teams. You'll typically move through senior manager, director, and VP roles before stepping into the C-suite. Consistent track of revenue outcomes, executive presence, and the ability to align marketing with company-wide business goals are the qualities that tend to accelerate the path.
Can you get hired as a chief marketing officer without prior C-suite experience?
Yes, particularly at early-stage startups and growth-stage companies that promote their first CMO from a VP of Marketing role. The most important signal is whether you've owned measurable business outcomes, not just managed campaigns. Building a portfolio that shows you hired and developed a team, set strategy independently, and reported results directly to a CEO or board will carry more weight than a prior title.
What does the chief marketing officer interview process look like?
The process typically runs four to six rounds and includes a recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation focused on your leadership philosophy, peer interviews with the CRO and CPO, a presentation or case study to the executive team, and a final conversation with the CEO or board. Most companies ask you to walk through a specific campaign or growth initiative you led end to end, so prepare a detailed example with clear before-and-after metrics.
Where can I find and apply to chief marketing officer jobs?
You can find and apply to chief marketing officer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to each listing without being redirected to third-party sites.
