Tips for Your Client Accounting Manager Job Search
Quantify your client portfolio on your resume
Client accounting manager resumes that list the number of client accounts managed, average revenue per client, and retention rates stand out. Hiring managers want to see scope, not just duties. Pull these numbers from your billing records or CRM before you apply.
Highlight your software stack explicitly
Firms screen resumes for specific platforms like QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or Xero. List every accounting platform you've used in a dedicated skills section, and note whether you have administrator-level access, not just end-user experience.
Target firms by their client service model
Outsourced accounting firms, fractional CFO shops, and traditional CPA practices all hire client accounting managers but expect different skill sets. Read each job description for phrases like 'advisory services' or 'compliance-focused' to match your background to the right employer type.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists client accounting manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare client scenario answers for interviews
Interviewers for this role routinely ask how you've handled a client who disputed a deliverable or missed a deadline. Prepare two or three specific situations where you resolved a billing disagreement, reset client expectations, or caught an error before the client did.
Negotiate scope before accepting an offer
Before signing, ask exactly how many clients you'll own on day one and what the expected growth looks like over twelve months. Client accounting managers who skip this often find themselves managing twice the book they interviewed for within six months of starting.
Client Accounting Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most client accounting managers?
The companies hiring the most client accounting managers right now include CVS Health, Cushman & Wakefield, and Baker Tilly Canada, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Ohio, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Outsourced accounting firms and regional CPA practices consistently post the highest volume of these roles.
How many client accounting manager jobs are remote?
About 73% of client accounting manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly cloud-based accounting platforms have been adopted. Roles focused on outsourced bookkeeping and virtual CFO services tend to be the most remote, while compliance-heavy or audit-adjacent positions more often require on-site or hybrid presence.
How do you become a client accounting manager?
Start by earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, then build several years of hands-on experience in public accounting or a client-facing bookkeeping role. Develop proficiency in at least one cloud accounting platform, pursue your CPA license to strengthen your candidacy, and take on progressively larger client portfolios to demonstrate you can manage relationships and deliverables independently.
Can you get hired as a client accounting manager with little experience?
It's possible to break in with fewer than three years of experience if you can show direct client contact, ownership of monthly close processes, and comfort with cloud accounting software. Smaller outsourced accounting firms and startups are more likely to hire candidates who are light on experience but strong on initiative and platform fluency than large regional CPA firms.
What does the client accounting manager interview process look like?
Most employers run a phone screen focused on your client portfolio size and software experience, followed by a technical interview covering month-end close procedures, financial statement preparation, and how you handle client escalations. A final round typically includes a hiring manager conversation and sometimes a short case exercise where you review sample client financials and explain what you'd flag or correct.
Where can I find and apply to client accounting manager jobs?
You can find and apply to client accounting manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each one that fits.
