Clinical Social Work Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical social work in New York?
To practice clinical social work in New York, you must earn a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and obtain licensure through the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions. The Licensed Master Social Worker credential requires completing supervised post-graduate hours and passing the ASWB clinical exam. Advancing to the LCSW designation requires additional supervised clinical hours, after which you can practice independently and bill insurance.
Which companies hire clinical social works in New York?
Employers hiring clinical social works in New York right now include Children's Home, Rochester Regional Health, and Good Shepherd Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's large integrated health systems, city-funded mental health programs, and nonprofit social service organizations collectively make this one of the most diverse hiring landscapes for licensed clinical social workers in the country.
Which New York cities have the most clinical social work jobs?
The cities with the most clinical social work openings in New York are New York, Binghamton, and Brooklyn. New York City dominates due to its concentration of hospital systems, community mental health centers, and city-funded agencies, while Buffalo and Albany see strong demand driven by regional health networks, state government programs, and university medical centers anchoring the upstate job market.
Are there remote clinical social work jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since many clinical social work roles require in-person assessment, crisis intervention, or on-site care coordination. About 55% of clinical social work openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Teletherapy and telehealth case management positions represent the segment most likely to offer fully remote arrangements for licensed clinicians.
