Commercial Project Manager Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a commercial project manager in New Jersey?
Most commercial project managers in New Jersey enter through a construction management or engineering degree, then build experience on-site before moving into a PM role. New Jersey does not require a state-issued license specifically for commercial project managers, but many employers expect a PMP credential from the Project Management Institute or a Certified Construction Manager designation. Candidates who gain field experience with New Jersey-based general contractors or owners' representatives and earn one of these credentials are consistently the strongest hires.
How much do commercial project managers make in New Jersey?
Commercial project managers in New Jersey earn a median of about $122,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,410 for the lowest 10% to over $190,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire commercial project managers in New Jersey?
Employers hiring commercial project managers in New Jersey right now include OceanFirst Bank, CP Engineers, and Ocean Coast Electric, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of pharmaceutical campuses, transit infrastructure projects, and high-rise commercial development in the Hudson County corridor means demand is spread across both large national firms and regional specialty contractors.
Which New Jersey cities have the most commercial project manager jobs?
The cities with the most commercial project manager openings in New Jersey are Township of Monroe, Kearny, and Sparta. Newark and Jersey City lead because of ongoing mixed-use redevelopment, transit-hub construction tied to NJ Transit, and proximity to major corporate campuses, while Parsippany draws consistent hiring from the large pharmaceutical and life sciences employers headquartered along the Route 10 and I-287 corridor.
Are there remote commercial project manager jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're limited. Commercial project managers are expected to be on-site for inspections, subcontractor coordination, and owner meetings, so the role is less remote-friendly than purely desk-based positions. About 18% of commercial project manager openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The portions most suited to remote work are pre-construction planning, scheduling, and document control rather than active construction phase management.
How can I get hired as a commercial project manager in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a New Jersey general contractor or construction management firm as a project engineer or project coordinator, roles that require a degree but not years of PM experience. Large employers in New Jersey's life sciences and infrastructure sectors, including firms active on NJ Transit capital projects and pharmaceutical build-outs in Morris and Somerset counties, regularly hire new graduates into these feeder roles. Earning an intern certificate through the American Institute of Constructors or completing coursework toward a PMP accelerates advancement to a full project manager title.
Where can I find and apply to commercial project manager jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to commercial project manager jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings posted by employers hiring in the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
