POSITION SUMMARY:

The Social Media & Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive social media, digital engagement, and community outreach strategies that increase brand awareness, strengthen community relationships, and support organizational goals, programs, campaigns, and events.

This role manages YWCA NNJ social media platforms, creates original content, supports digital campaigns (including paid advertising), and collaborates across departments to amplify programming, fundraising, outreach, partnerships, and community engagement efforts. The position also supports outreach initiatives through relationship-building, event participation and the creation of multimedia exclusively for YWCA NNJ’s platforms, campaigns, and organizational communications. The role requires strong creativity, organization, communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities across digital platforms, outreach activities, and community-based initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social Media Strategy, Content & Engagement

• Develop and implement social media strategies aligned with organizational goals and campaigns.
• Create, schedule, and publish original content across prioritized social media platforms while ensuring all company accounts remain current and aligned with brand standards
• Maintain and update social media content calendars and posting schedules
• Maintain and update monthly calendars of events to ensure all organizational programs, initiatives and events are accurately reflected across digital platforms and communications.
• Monitor engagement, respond to inquiries, and support community interaction across platforms.
• Ensure all content is mission-driven, brand aligned, and consistent across channels
• Collaborate with internal teams to gather content, stories, photos, and program highlights
• Manage and grow platform presence, including existing and emerging platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and emerging channels)
• Update and manage Linktree and related digital resources to reflect current campaigns, events, and organizational priorities
• Support creation and management of paid social media campaigns and digital outreach initiatives

Community Outreach & Engagement Support

• Attend prioritized outreach events, community programs, and organizational initiatives to capture photo and video content exclusively for YWCA NNJ social media platforms, digital communication, and organizational use-including during events, programs and community activities conducted on behalf of the organization
• Build and maintain relationships, collaborations, and partnerships with community organizations, stakeholders, and external partners to support outreach and engagement goals
• Support volunteer engagement initiatives, coalition-building efforts, and community outreach activities aligned with YWCA NNJ’s mission and organizational priorities
• Promote program wins, volunteer success stories, community impact, and organizational initiatives through both digital communications and outreach effort
• Support event promotion through social media, eblasts, and digital communications and outreach efforts
• Assist with creation of promotional materials including flyers, graphics, digital assets, and outreach materials
• Support livestreaming, virtual events, webinars, and Zoom/Stream Yard production needs
• Coordinate with staff to secure and manage photo/video releases
• Support outreach and engagement tracking efforts, including event participation, partnership activity, and community engagement data
• Promote clear communication and collaboration across departments and community partners to support organizational goals and outreach initiatives.

Digital Tool & Platform Management

• Manage digital platforms including Eventbrite, GiveSmart, Zoom, StreamYard, and related tools • Assist with website and digital content updates as needed

• Support registration tracking and attendee management for virtual and in-person events
• Maintain and update outreach, event, and engagement tracking systems
• Ability to work independently as well as in collaborative team environment

Analytics, Reporting & Communication

• Track and report social media performance metrics, engagement data, and campaign results (i.e., response rates, partnership conversions, program wins, volunteer success stories).
• Prepare regular reports for leadership and organizational stakeholders, including board updates when needed
• Monitor trends, SEO performance, and digital engagement insights to inform communication strategies
• Maintain consistent tracking of campaign analytics and engagement outcomes across campaigns and outreach initiatives

Collaboration & Internal Communication

• Work closely with Communications, Development, Membership, and Program teams to support campaigns, storytelling, outreach, and organizational initiatives
• Coordinate with staff to ensure timely content collection and alignment with organizational priorities
• Provide digital support and communication materials to internal stakeholders
• Communicate effectively across departments to support integrated outreach and marketing efforts

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong writing, storytelling, and content creation skills with a brand-appropriate voice
• Substantial experience in grass-roots mobilization, social justice advocacy
• Experience managing social media accounts for an organization or business
• Familiarity with major social media platforms and emerging trends
• Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Ability to analyze engagement data and translate insights into action
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills
• Strong proficiency in digital outreach and social media engagement
• Experience with event planning and project management
• Ability to work some evenings/weekends for community events (as needed)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Health, Urban Studies, Social Work, or Nonprofit Management
• Minimum of 3–4 years of experience in community outreach and engagement; social media, digital marketing, or content creation
• Portfolio or links required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods and work occasional non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.

TRAVEL

This position involves some travel to different Bergen County locations as needed and requires a reliable method of transportation.
