Align your credentials to U.S. standards
CBRE's project teams expect credentials that translate directly to U.S. construction workflows. Get any foreign trade certifications evaluated by a NACES-member credential assessment agency before applying, so hiring managers can immediately confirm your qualifications meet the role's requirements.
Target CBRE's project-based hiring cycles
CBRE staffs Construction Technicians around contract wins and project mobilization dates, not fixed annual hiring windows. Monitor their careers page for site-specific postings tied to new commercial or infrastructure projects, since those roles often have faster timelines to offer and filing.
Clarify your OPT or CPT status early
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility before your first interview. CBRE uses E-Verify, so your work authorization must be active and verifiable from day one. A lapse between OPT and H-1B filing can disqualify you mid-process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter construction roles
Construction Technician openings at large real estate firms can be scattered across divisions and locations. Search Migrate Mate to filter CBRE's active Construction Technician postings by visa type, so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Prepare for a technical site assessment
CBRE's construction interviews frequently include scenario-based technical questions on building systems, safety compliance, and inspection protocols. Prepare specific examples from past project work that demonstrate hands-on site experience, not just academic or theoretical knowledge of construction processes.
Understand the H-1B filing window for your start date
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date, so time your offer acceptance accordingly. If CBRE extends an offer outside that window, discuss a cap-exempt bridge arrangement or TN status if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CBRE sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Technicians?
Yes, CBRE sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Technician roles. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as construction management, civil engineering, or a related discipline. CBRE's HR team handles the petition process, including the Labor Condition Application filed with the DOL.
Which visa types are commonly used for Construction Technician roles at CBRE?
CBRE supports several work visa categories for Construction Technicians, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican professionals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for current students. Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM labor certification are also available for longer-term employees in this function.
What qualifications or experience does CBRE expect for Construction Technician roles?
CBRE typically looks for candidates with a degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related technical field, combined with hands-on project site experience. Familiarity with building inspection procedures, safety regulations, and construction documentation is expected. For visa sponsorship, your degree must directly relate to the duties of the specific Construction Technician position you're applying for.
How do I apply for Construction Technician jobs at CBRE?
You can apply directly through CBRE's careers portal, where Construction Technician postings are listed by location and project type. For a faster way to find roles that already include visa sponsorship, browse Migrate Mate, which filters CBRE's open Construction Technician positions by work authorization type so you can focus only on roles that match your visa situation.
How do I manage the timeline between a CBRE offer and my visa filing?
Once CBRE extends an offer, their HR team initiates the sponsorship process, which includes DOL labor condition application certification before any H-1B petition can be filed with USCIS. Standard H-1B processing runs three to six months, while premium processing reduces that to 15 business days. Plan your start date around these windows to avoid gaps in work authorization.
