Frame your credentials around technical program scope
Google's Project Program Managers are expected to manage ambiguity across engineering orgs, not just track timelines. Emphasize experience owning end-to-end technical programs, not just coordinating tasks, so your resume clears Google's leveling bar before sponsorship ever comes up.
Target roles explicitly flagged for visa sponsorship
Google posts Project Program Manager openings across dozens of product areas. Filter specifically for roles that confirm visa sponsorship in the job description, then use Migrate Mate to surface those listings without manually scanning each posting.
Understand which visa applies to your situation
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for Project Program Manager roles. If you're Australian, the E-3 has no lottery and processes faster. If you're not, H-1B sponsorship means your start date is tied to the April lottery and October 1 fiscal year cap.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
Project Program Manager roles at Google typically require a bachelor's degree in a technical or business field. If your degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator before your first interview, not after an offer is extended.
Ask about petition timing before accepting an offer
Once Google extends an offer, confirm whether your start date is contingent on H-1B cap selection. If you're already in the U.S. on another status, ask whether a cap-exempt or cap-gap scenario applies to your situation before signing.
Know what Google's legal team will file on your behalf
Google uses internal immigration counsel to handle LCA certification with DOL and I-129 filing with USCIS. Your role is to supply accurate employment history, passport details, and degree records promptly. Delays in your document response are the most common cause of petition slowdowns.

Find Project Program Manager at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Project Program Managers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Project Program Manager roles. The process follows the standard H-1B cap cycle: Google files your petition in April, USCIS runs the lottery, and an approved petition makes you eligible to start on October 1. Google handles the LCA and I-129 filings through its internal immigration team, so your main responsibility is supplying accurate documentation on time.
Which visa types does Google sponsor for Project Program Manager roles?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for Project Program Manager positions. H-1B is the standard path for most international candidates. H-1B1 is available to citizens of Chile and Singapore, and the E-3 is exclusive to Australian citizens. The E-3 is notably more straightforward for Australians because it has a dedicated annual allocation that has never been fully used, meaning there's no lottery.
How do I apply for Project Program Manager jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal at careers.google.com. Search for 'Program Manager' or 'Project Manager' and filter by location and team. Tailor your resume to highlight technical program ownership and cross-functional coordination at scale, since Google's leveling process distinguishes heavily between tactical coordinators and strategic program leaders. Migrate Mate is a useful way to track and browse Google's sponsored Project Program Manager openings in one place.
What qualifications does Google expect for Project Program Manager positions?
Google typically expects a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, along with demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-team programs in a technology environment. Strong candidates show familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies, experience influencing without authority across engineering and product teams, and a track record of delivering programs that involve significant technical dependencies or infrastructure components.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Google to sponsor my H-1B?
H-1B sponsorship at Google follows the federal cap schedule. USCIS opens registration in March, runs the lottery in April, and approved petitions become effective October 1. If you're interviewing in late winter or spring, you're targeting the upcoming cap cycle. If you miss it, you'd need to either remain in valid status until the following cycle or explore whether an E-3 or H-1B1 pathway applies to your citizenship.
